Anyone in Taipei use RO drinking water filter systems? I had mine installed about three years ago and I just realized I never had any of the filters changed I have a TDS meter and checked that the filtered water is only at 1ppm (tap water is about 45ppm). I have new filters on hand but being cheap I’d like to change them only when absolutely necessary. So looking for advice if I should change them soon (since it’s been three years already) or wait until the filtered water to be higher in ppm (maybe if it reaches 5?) Any advice is welcome and thanks in advance!
I just realized maybe I should have posted this in Living in Taiwan forum instead, so please feel free to move my post if it’s not Health & Fitness related!
I have some of the filters changed at 6 months and a full set changed cleaned and serviced every year they clean the pipes and everything.
The filters have a usage time on them, I tend to follow that as it’s not expensive, the full set and service only costs about 1000nt. (Im in Pingtung so will be a different dealer to you, but the cost of fitting and servicing is only around 150more than getting the filters themself)
The first filter should be changed every 3-4 months, the next 2 every 6-9 months and the others every year, all depending on your usage and tolerance for risk/water wastage. Personally I would change all the filters at this point as you’ve long exceeded expected lifetime. That model appears to be on sale at the moment so it may in fact be cheaper to replace the entire unit if you can nego some free filters into the deal!
Only $1000 for full set and installation? I called up the company that installed the system and they quoted full set with installation with discount is $3500 (sorry the following will be in Chinese)
But since I have all of them except the RO membrane, they’re quoting me $1000 (installation fee) +$1800 (RO membrane)
If you are in Taipei area I have used this man before
黃照義 Huang Zhau Yi

Besides replacing water filters he has other jobs so not sure when he is available. Also since I have moved a few years ago and water filter I use now is different I am not sure if he is doing this work anymore.
Also I think that one is only replaced every 18m to 2y they all have different life cycles, that’s why I just get the company to come and do what’s needed.
They clean the pipes and check the water pressure and pump etc.
Just to add yours is a different brand to mine. Yours looks a lot more expensive but I’m not sure what the difference is.
So he pointed out it was the 100 gallon membrane (replaced every two years) which is $1200 even on Toppurpor’s website. He lowered labor fee to $450 instead (while Toppurpor is $800). But he offered me a China brand 100G for $700. Do you have experience with China brand or should I just stick with the $1200?
Given the purpose of this filter I would only buy from the manufacturer, they may also source in China but you have to trust someone!
Why would you want this? The RM-03N is the one recommended for the unit you linked to originally. What does “100 gallon” mean and what is the one you have rated for?
12 months on the manufacturers website.
That set does not include the RO filter which is generally the most expensive one.
NT$450 is a good deal, the filters are easy to change just the RO can be a bit of a PITA. He does seem to be a bit of a charlatan though…Seemed quite happy to rip you off until he realized you researched some prices.
If you do get him to do the job be observant on what filters he actually uses, make sure they’re branded and manufactured reasonably recently not some 5 year old stock he bought cheap and make sure they’re properly sealed, especially the RO filter which typically comes in a vacuum pack.
So why would you want to filter your water? I am asking seriously. We used to have one installed in this apartment but at one point it broke and I just uninstalled it. What is the real actual science besides this? I assume the water company suggests the water is good enough to drink right from the tap?
Yes that was just to show the brand the most they ever change is 5 not nine like in the photo.
We just have them come out twice a year they change what’s due and it normally cost around 1000, sometimes more sometimes less.
It’s the same company that fitted it and I think they cover most of the apartments in the complex as they are always around.
I just remember when we moved in a few years ago the price difference between them fitting and having them sent was around 200, I just checked the paper work and we are over due a change ourselves.
I thought it was considered drinkable up to the meter, than after that it your responsibility or the buildings?
The photo shows 1 year’s supply, there are nine because the first filter is recommended to be changed every 3 months, hence 4 of, the others every 6 months, hence 2 of each, and the activated carbon filter once, hence 1 of.
From their website a year’s supply is 850NT. Weirdly they don’t seem to sell the RO filter on their website.
Yes I just let them come out and do their stuff, I have a bit of paper with the dates and what they change, the fact they service and clean while they are here check the pressure etc, I never really questioned the price.
Just booked for them to come Monday to change the 3 filters 600nt, 5 was last time and 4 next time, apparently we don’t use that much drinking water there is only 2 of use so thats why every 6 months not 3months.
That’s great your guy doesn’t cheat you and only replace what’s needed. I’m still trying to figure out if I should trust my guy or just get the manufacturer to come
