Road Safety Class Anyone?

I had to attend a mandatory 3-hour Road Safety class after receiving a few cough cough overspeeding fines. It turned intense with graphic videos of dead people and screaming parents but overall useful. I learnt a lot on regulations, blind spots, driving tips, etc. Sad that I was the only foreigner and the only one who seemed genuinely interested. Some guy was sleeping and the speaker shouted at him “We are recording the room. If you keep sleeping I will not validate your attendance”

Did anyone have this experience?

I had to do sit in a video when getting my scooter license and watch 1+ hours of people getting squashed. But I don’t think it matters. Driver education should be focused on habits and best practices not what could happen. Just yesterday a girl turned left from the right side of the right lane across four lanes of traffic without checking over her shoulder and only activating the turning signal after the light turned green and she started turning left. She clipped my mirror and continued as if nothing happened. Yet I have no doubt she’d be fine with real driver education that teaches defensive driving, she just has no idea that she can be legally in the center lane and can legally turn left when there are no oncoming cars or pedestrians crossing.

When doing my military service there was a lot of driving related education too, as reckless driving is a problem in the military too. Same dramatized videos of people getting squished and stuff.

Not in Taiwan, but waaaay back (1980) in high school driver’s ed. class we had to watch a similarly gruesome film called Red Asphalt. It’s good to know that the instructor in your class seems to have been taking it seriously.
