of course Indian places are often great for vegetarians as well. Balle Balle is good; Saffron and The Spice Shop, both in Tianmu, are probably the fanciest ones

If you really wanna treat yourself to something special and are willing to spend a bit more I can not recommend Saffron enough. It’s in Tianmu and they serve the best Indian food I`ve ever had! (Never been to India though)
Last time I’ve been there was in spring 2010 (I’ve been out of the country for a while) but I plan on paying them another visit soon.

Everytime I went there the service was extraordinary (even compared to Western European standards) and they also have a wide selection of wines (which I never tried). The staff there sure know what they are doing.
And the Indian bread they serve is to die for.

Go to Saffron in Tienmu, The husband goes there all the time is his suit, with other suits and dresses. Its Indian, you can go there in khakis or suits it doesn’t matter and a good meal for 2 will end up being 2000 or 2500. SO that’s in your budget. You will have to commute though. Call in advance make a reservation.

Even though the place is very very small, the food is classy.

I’ve had Saffron 46 in Xinyi a few times. Very nice and has an upscale feel, especially with that view of 101. Everything was good. But nothing was spicy. I wonder if you can ask to get things with a bit more kick.
