Granted I haven’t looked for it anywhere, yet, but has anyone ever seen salt deodorant in Taipei?
Mine hit the bathroom floor this morning, piff!

@discobot fortune
Yes
Looks like you’re in luck. Now you just have to find the location.
Does it work?

This?
Last time I bought one I asked the same question on Taiwanease and got pointed in the direction of a famous western style pharmacy in Tianmu. But that was years ago. Maybe somebody knows the name of the place I mean?
That’s the brand, but it looks like it is just the spray.
@DonR by itself, using tap water, I would say it works. I first tried it back when I worked in a glass factory. Between mid June to September we would see 46c days out on the floor. My deodorant smelled great in the morning, and like demon spit by dinner. The salt stick ended each day far less offensively.
I started to make my own salt solution just over 10 years ago, and using that with the stick, you end up with a higher concentration of salt.
I’ve added various scent agents on occasion for that old school deodorant feel
You can get that stuff at a Chinese Medicine store, it’s alum crystal
硫酸鋁鉀

Alum, or potassium aluminium sulfate, is a chemical compound with the formula KAl(SO4). 12H2O. It has been known for thousands of years and is used in various ways - in taxidermy, as a deodorant, in pickling food, in fire extinguishers ."
It’s big in the Philippines as well and known as TAWAS
Huh. Cool. I had absolutely no idea this was a thing.
Not particularly tempted, either - I just find it interesting!
It helps with stinky feet and armpits by killing bacteria that cause stink.
I used to buy lots of it in the Philippines when going diving to bring back to Taiwan. Now I buy in Taiwan, the crystal, just wet it under the faucet and rub my armpits. One chunk will last a year or more.
You have to really slather it on, but it does work.
No just wet and rub. A nano layer is enough to not stink for at least 24 h.
The Philippine sticks and liquid have stuff like calamansi in them.
Is there any way, without a scientific laboratory, to fuse the crystal back together if you do crack it?
I was so disappointed with how that word ended. “Just one squid, I mean squirt, and you’re good for the day.”
I guess fish mongers use it that way.
Hence the salt water, it helps to fully saturate what’s there. Rubbing it in plain water ==> lower concentration ==> more rubbing for effect.
This was my next step, thanks for the leg work ![]()
Grow a massive crystal.
I actually slightly stroke my skin with it, not really rub.
