Sanskrit

Maybe Sanskrit should be revived
Seems such a beautiful language but only spoken today by a very limited number of people

Haha yes she’s maybe my angel
But the language sounds
Very soothing

I know it’s not but reminds me of the Ami language when sung

I’ve never heard Sanskrit sung
I thought it was a long dead language

Apparently it’s not dead but almost with only maybe 14000 native speakers

It’s not dead yet. I remember studying it in school for years till elementary class and still can recite poems in it
It’s the oldest language
It must be preserved

I’m pretty sure actual chanting in Sanskrit sounds drastically different from those new agey Chinese Buddhist music.

I wonder if Sanskrit was the basis for a lot
Of other languages ?

It is yes
Sanskrit’s kind of like the grandparent of a lot of languages, especially in South Asia. Many indian languages and many others outside of India have roots in it, so it shaped a ton of words and grammar. Even some Southeast Asian languages have Sanskrit influence, especially because of Buddhism. So, even if people don’t speak it now, a lot of the words we use today go back to Sanskrit.

Some language has been referred to as Sanskrit for more than 3000 years, and they honestly aren’t the same language. By the time Buddha was actually around, people were already speaking Prakrit or related Prakrit languages.

It’s similar to Old Chinese is not the same language as Middle Chinese which is not the same language as Mandarin.
