Hello everyone this is the message i got from admission officer in one of the University i want to apply in Taiwan, Is this normal dorm policy?
“The dorm is guaranteed in the 1st study year. From second year, the students draw lots to see whether they got the school dorm.”
I’m not sure if it’s normal, but I’ve certainly heard about such policies before. I don’t think it’s uncommon.
I’ve heard exactly this in places like 成功 university in Tainan where they have 1st year guaranteed dorm, but after that you only can apply to be in the accommodation lottery.
But also specifically the student dorm there I know was a tiny room shared with 2 other students of your own sex, so it is expected that finding a room in a shared apartment in the city is going to greatly increase your living quality without greatly increasing your expense.
So hopefully you have time to find a better place and good flatmates within your first year there.
