Scooter fuel consumption/ most efficient scoot under 30kNT?

Hey guys

I was just wondering if anyone has reliable data regarding different fuel consumption figures for various scooters here in Taiwan. I’m sure that the newer fuel injected scooters are much more efficient than the older carb models, but exactly how much more? I’m currently driving an old, but well-maintained Yamaha Fuzzy 125. It serves my needs perfectly but I’m doing a lot more commuting these days and am spending a lot of cash on fuel (relatively speaking of course).

I’m guessing something like a fuel injected 100cc 4-stroke would be great for efficiency but is anything like this available for 30k or less (2nd hand of course)?

I guess the average old 125 gets about 60 miles per gallon (about 25 kilometers per liter) in the city.

What do the new fuel-injected scooters claim to get?

If you’ve got 40K to spend, you can get a top-of-the-range electric scooter, although you’ll need a Taiwanese friend to sign up for the (substantial) gov’t subsidy for you. A 2kWh battery costs about NT$10 to fill up and will give you 1-3 hours driving, depending on traffic conditions.

I agree with Zender’s assessment of carburretted scooters - my 125 gets roughly that mileage.

Slightly OT, but its perhaps worth pointing out that the most efficient (petrol-powered) 2-wheelerprobably won’t be a scooter, it’ll be a motorcycle.

I’d guess the SYM Wolf, and/or, if you want something that’s arguably describable as a scooter, the SYM Honda C90 Cub clone.

At one time I was tracking my consumption but I never wrote down any numbers. I think my '03 Hartford 150 was getting around 30 km/l in the city and there was at least a 50% increase in the rural areas. When fuel was a little cheaper 2 years ago it basically cost 1NT for 1 km (city) and I had to track the kms each tank due to a broken gauge. Now I probably don’t even ride 1000kms in a year.

I know bikes can be more fuel efficient but due to the stuff I need to carry around frequently, it has to be a scooter. I’m actually a huge bike fan but the overpriced and underpowered crap bikes here available in the sub-250cc category puts me off buying one. I’d maybe get another NSR150 (as a toy, not a commuter! awful fuel economy) but they’re too expensive for how old they are these days… Any other bike the category has no significant performance advantage over a scooter, or if it is, is just too expensive for what you’re essentially getting IMO (CPI 250, Hornet 250).

I’m interested in the electric scooter suggestion though…
