I am thinking about renting a scooter during my exchange semester in Taipei. Are there any locations you can recommend for a long-term rental? Most shops I could find are more oriented to short term rentals, with the corresponding prices.
Buy a second hand one for around 20k and sell it again. You will probably get your money back.
Even if you had to sell it for ten for a quick sale, it would be cheaper than renting I reckon.

Thank you! I thought about this as well. But what about getting an insurance / licence plate as a foreigner with visitor visa?
Use your Taiwanese friend to do it for you. Of course you have to pay for any/all traffic violations, parking tickets etc. Only works if you and your friend have good trust. You can offer to just leave the scooter with him and he can get paid by selling it on for all his/her troubles. A second hand scooter can be bought as cheap as ~ 10K NTD
