The screw worm has been moving country by country north toward the U.S. The threat was very evident. There was a team for research and prevention. DOGE cut funding for USAID projects monitoring and containing the screwworm in Central America. The US also lifted the import restriction for beef imposed during Biden administration because of fear the fly might enter US.
The GOP is trying to blame immigrants for the introduction but this has been a long time problem. Removing the import restriction seems to be a bad move…as well as defunding that team.
