So, never thought that HDD manufacturers made a point of their warranty. Anyways, Seagate just proved that they honor it. I had a HDD just sitting there, broken for the last 2 years … until I went online downloaded the Seagate HDD tools to check if it was really broken. After following instructions I got an error code and a link to go their web site for verification and warranty check, and my god it said it’s still under warranty until April 18 … and I made it … sent it to their Taoyuan service point from where it was sent to Singapore, got an email that it was really broken and they would ship me a new one, upgraded newer version, same capacity tho … and after a little more than a week, it sits here on my desk … just arrived, in two days from Singapore, to Sanxia … hooray! :discodance: :bravo:
Well people, if you have a recent broken HDD, just go to the manufacturers web site and have it checked, it will tell you if the drive is still under warranty or not by verifying serial# and product# … Samsung, WD, Seagate, probably Hitachi too …
I got a response from Samsung that mine wasn’t under warranty as they could not verify the history of the drive, meaning that it was a real old bastard predating the system they use now … too bad …
Same for some older Seagate HDD and Western Digital … Maxtor is Seagate now …
Do it, it’s worth it …
