Seals in Taiwan

It’s a baby seal about 6-month old. It probably is still being nursed, and that probably implies the mother is also nearby.

Even though for most expats from North America, Europe, Australia or New Zealand, seals are nothing special at all, they are not native to Taiwan, since the waters are generally too warm for seals. It’s incredible rare to spot a seal in Taiwan.

Maybe we will get our own penguins next.

Since the seal appear to be alone, the authorities tried to capture it with the help of experts from Yehliu Ocean World . The pup proved too quick for them, and dove deep to avoid capture.

This apparently is the first ever seal spotting in Taiwan.

Reminds me of this. The walrus eventually went around Ireland and the UK sinking boats as it turned up in a new harbour , it was last spotted heading home going past Iceland !
