The last one I tried, it looked like I was going to have to guess every word in the English language, so I gave up, and I was ashamed to post it. I’ll give this game another try, but I’m not sure I have “world enough and time” to “say the secret word and win a prize.”
The highest I got was 51.25 987/1000, after 73 guesses. I guessed 30 more times–no dice. In fact, I actually got worse. As to the secret word, it’s derived from one of the words that I guessed. It’s just a different part of speech.
I gave up on Semantle #78 in 103 guesses.

That happened to me also. I didn’t try yesterdays tho I was busy. But check this out.
I solved Semantle #79 in 50 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 19.41. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #11. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 38.71 (624/1000). https://semantle.novalis.org/

I think it depends on the word. Some are just beyond me. Others aren’t too bad. I had to give the game a break for a week after my first attempt cause it just frustrated me.

Truly impressive! I got on the wrong track again by guessing words of the same character or nature that are somewhat removed (I should say very far removed) from the actual answer. I won’t give away the words that I did get the closest to, but after around 100 guesses I just gave up. I think I could have guessed 100 or 200 times more and have ended up no closer to the answer. I was completely on the wrong track.
