Serious Political Pictures

The veritable ones don’t end up doing so well either.

Or Stalin for that matter or Pol Pot. It’s not like these “intellectuals “ or champagne socialists even know their history

This should be in Funny Political.

I’m convinced if the choice were Kamala Harris or Hitler, the GOP and many other americans would choose Hitler. Because, well, look at the current state of fascist america

The GOP would just have a primary and go with the person who won. Unlike some parties.

Hmmm. Yet Canuckies idolize a fascist. War Measures Act ring a bell? Young Trudeau: 1919-1944: Son of Quebec, Father of Canada: Nemni, Max, Nemni, Monique, Johnson, William: 9780771067495: Amazon.com: Books

And/or ignorance. E.g. the COVID lockdown seemed ridiculous because the numbers were presented horribly badly, e.g. 1% fatality rate tending towards the elderly, those in a “weakened state” etc, it sounds like a bad flu put that way.

What was hardly ever mentioned was that even 1% is still a shit-ton of people and neither hospitals nor medical supply chains could possibly handle it. If COVID had been allowed to run free the death rate would have skyrocketed (I heard figures as high as 5%) from a combination of both actual COVID deaths, people who needed non-COVID care (falling off roofs, car accidents, fires, getting run over by tractors, etc) not receiving it due to exhausted resources, and secondary deaths from COVID due to those non-COVID patients who did receive care dying anyway from contracting it in the hospital while trying to recover from whatever else put them there.

In short, the rage is understandable, but also based on abysmal ignorance due to the medical establishment’s (and MSM’s) utter failure at actually communicating the problem.

It’s like climate change (yeah, I’ll say it) it’s very real catastrophe barelling down the road at us head-on, but any messaging you ever see is so badly communicated you still, even today, can’t make heads nor tails of it.

As much as I admire and believe in the very real and valuable work scientists do, I also believe the human race is basically fucked because the education system is too fucked for people to be able to parse what is being said, and those saying it can’t think outside their little box of specialization enough to bridge the gap, (arguably another failure of education).

(Yes, yes, not all scientists, not all Floridians, whatever.)

Doesn’t sound very democratic…

Trust me— they still smoke weed in Texas. And confiscate it, similarly to how the Brit cops used to handle it. No one is going without.

Given that you can’t go anywhere in NYC or Albany or any Walmart, high school or mall without the stank, I’m OK with Texas’ decision.

I’m skeptical that users are getting thrown into for profit prison for weed.

They are actually one of the top states for marijuana incarcerations. :expressionless_face:

Uh huh. NORML conveniently left out incarceration stats. So I checked.

It would also be interesting to see who got arrested for driving high—

Safety first!

Anyway— the meme isn’t serious. It’s low level dipshit bar talk from a biased source.

That was then (misdemeanor), this is now (felony). Totally different ballpark. Texas arrested nearly 30,000 people for marijuana last year, 28,000 for simple possession.

You know was well as I that felonies and misdemeanors are not the same. A misdemeanor can easily be dismissed, commuted to community service or time served for a night in jail, and in a year or two expunged. A felony stays on your record forever and while non-violent first offenders can plea bargain it down to a misdemeanor or probation, that’s not always the case, especially if there are related charges or you have a record.

And again— “arrested” doesn’t mean “serve time in PRISON.”

It’s a hyperbolic meme and not a serious picture.

You’re missing the point. Texas just passed this law two weeks ago. We’ll see what happens. Expect more than a few outrageous miscarriages of justice. Some people will do time for felony possession - we just don’t know how many yet.

I’m not missing your point.

To get a felony charge for cannabis flower in Texas, an individual must possess more than 4 ounces (a quarter-pound) or be involved in manufacture/delivery. However, for cartridges, edibles, or extracts, possession of even a fraction of a gram triggers an immediate felony charge.

As for the felony, NORML suggests via omission that this is a federal felony— it’s not.

So I looked into why— why did they change the law:

Public safety concerns and the fact that the weed growers tried to outsmart the law. Ergo, pushback. NORML’s framing of this is bullshit.
