So apparently Shake Shake has completed trademark filings in Taiwan this year under the service category for “restaurant services”. The process was started late 2025 and completed around March 2026.
Multiple AI sources place a 90% probability that Shake Shack will open a permanent, full-scale location in Taiwan, by Q1 or Q2 2027.
To retain trademark protection, a brand must demonstrate commercial use in that country or risk losing protection. In New Zealand, for example, three years of inactivity can result in a trademark name returning to public use
In-N-Out’s pop-up events seem to occur every two to four years. Given the aforementioned New Zealand trademark laws, the risk of losing its trademark in the country is considered the primary driver for these events. Some consider this is a strategy companies use to test the market and determine demand. However, despite the burger chain having a New Zealand trademark since 1991, the franchise has no restaurants in the country.
But then again, Shake Shack seems to have at least have some restaurants in Asia already. So maybe they’re really trying to enter Taiwan’s market.
They’re certainly better than like 7分so despite costing pretty much the same… So I’d hope so. There clearly is a market for higher quality burgers, Taichung has so many places doing high end (like 300+ NTD) burgers. Some are good, some… not so much.
Shake Shack seems to have a presence in places like Tokyo and Bangkok. Source: my own eyes, not “AI.” It would not surprise me if they give Taiwan a try.
As to the hopes and dreams around Taco Bell, I can only say:
I was told they have it in Bangkok airport by my former boss who left the company to go and live in Thailand.
He also gave me with an Adderall when I mentioned having a headache. I probably should’ve guessed from his personality that it wouldn’t be, but I only really noticed halfway through the first class when I was like holy fuck I’m wired.
I have not checked the validity of this claim to this day. Was 2 years ago. I don’t want to know the truth; it’s about the dream of 3 am tacos.
Let us take a moment to marvel at how McDonald’s in Taiwan has bucked this trend and thrashed its competitors. I’d love to read a book analyzing how they’ve done this.
I heard this many years ago, I guess finally comming
I did go the one in Hong Kong (CN), Busan (democratic Korea), they are ok, Upscale, the food costs more than in the States and to me overpriced (I can get better burgers in local places for less) but I think the brand name will attract many.
Y’all need to calm yourselves. I’ve been to a Shake Shack in Hong Kong. The social-media hype is not real. It’s marginally better than McDonald’s. Find a Western restaurant doing more genuine hamburgers.
