I’m looking to ship around 40kg-50kg worth of stuff back home to Sydney, Australia, mainly looking for shipment by ship route as that seems the cheapest.
I’m wondering if anybody knows how I could go about doing this?
I’ve found something about 20kg via EMS with Chunghwa Post but no info about size, dimensions, or cost?
I’ve been working in taiwan for a couple of years now and due to my personal situation and some commitments I’m unable to personally take these things back myself.
There is a thread about posting luggage sized items in the regular post office. This is going to sound strange but if you search for ‘bullet shaped lead’ in the search bar you will bring up the thread.
sea shipping by post office is only available through the post office and to only a limited number of countries.
EMS is air, I think 20kg is going to cost probably around 10,000 or more. Sea is much cheaper if available. Just make sure you’re not in a huge hurry to get it at the other end, it is going to take quite some time (2 months or more).
The 20kg and 30kg postal limits internationally are country dependent. Within taiwna its 20. Many international destinations are 30kg. Only a few are 20.
Ocean fright here is roughly half the price of EMS and takes 1-4 months. We use all those options weekly and ocean freight covid jnwards has had more lost packages so we advise against it with customers. I wouldn’t use it for anything valuable.
The post office company gas a fully functional English website. Note that the covid price gouge has now been undone, and prices are now almost back down to where they were pre covid. One other note is sometimes when they create a price hike, their website may not be up to date. We lost a few hundred thousand in shipping because they said the prices take effect on the first, so we sent everything a couple days earlier and they stil forced us to pay the full price that they claimed took affect next month. So I wouldn’t trust them too much unfortunately.
Depending on weight, ems and air mail aren’t so different. On maximum weights, sometimes ems is even cheaper. We have been using ems for a very long time here as well as regular air mail and can confidently say ems is far superior. In both times and more importantly damage, lost packages. I would suggest it over others.
20kg to aus ems is 5075, air mail is 4,405, surface is 2,685
I remember sending a guitar to the states and shipping was over 10,000. But it was more about the size of the object than the weight, and the amount of “boxes” that I have to put over the case (which makes it larger, and the price increases logarithmically with each additional cm in width or length).
I’d ship it surface if I could but then that would be a huge issue with lost package and taking forever. It was also during covid so even EMS took a very long time simply because the USPS dropped the ball.
Oh and remember, you have to use QR codes when shipping to any first world countries. “security regulations” and all that. When I did it the post office wouldn’t even print it out for me. I must scan the code, fill in the information, and then print it all out. So this means a trip to 7-11 before you can even take it to the post office.
They use volumetric “weight” as well. 30kg is the highest price bracket. Ems 30kg to the states was 7080, now its a tiny bit more. If it was over 10k, that was during covid and they had loads of extra fees for emergency whatever. My highest fee went up to 14k per 30kg box. It’s back down to the 7s now.
You don’t need qr codes. Tell them to piss off if they say that, it’s not true. One thing that has changed, and started with Trump and shipments to the US was with ems you had to fill out the form and print it yourself. Cannot hand write at the post. This has now expanded to enarly all international packages, which is beyond frigging annoying. Their website has their “ez post” scheme, which is anything but easy. More and more post offices setup computers there now so you can do it there. The whole thing seems like a way to pass off any liability.
Anyway, I just get the staff to do the ez post there on the computer. If they don’t let me write, I refuse. I give them the stack of papers and go for lunch haha. wankers. The qr code you see is likely just a link to that web portal to fill out the paperwork online.
I suspect the system of doing it all kline will get better. The postal websites is one of the few governemnt websites that actually does make an effort to work properly. So, I have hope. They are far superior to the banks for example.
Yea, not only that but EMS which is supposed to take a week MAX took over a month because it got stuck at some post office in Montana, near the destination. It sat there forever and USPS claimed it was lost, but all of a sudden, they “found” it by miracle.
I hope that criminal goes to jail (by that I mean the last president).
It’s that EZ post system. Hopefully by now it will work better. I suggest going to the post office ahead of time without your packages and ask for help. Then when you got all your info filled out, then take your packages over.
The US is not first world in terms of postal services. If you tracked it, even during covid, I bet it got there within a week. If not within 1-2days. Their local delivery times may vary. The US has become shittier by the year. The Taiwan side is beyond spectacular! As it should be, being an exporting country at heart.
Yea, there’s a very long line of super container ships (by this I mean ships that can carry an excess of something like 20,000 TEU, really giant ships that make the Dali look like a dinghy), forming a trail from Japan, all the way to Indonesia, into the Indian Ocean, past South Africa (thanks to the Houthi, they’re skipping the Suez canal), and going all the way back up to Europe and into the North Sea. So very good logistics network all the way around. Oh and those giant ships do not go to the US, the US lacks port infrastructure for those big ships, so they can only take smaller ships like those Suezmax and Neo Panamax ships.
Taiwan post is actually pretty good but USPS is getting worse by the minute, in addition to the fact that they’re charging a lot for postage even within the US (I sent some wood within the US and the postage was close to 30 bucks, for priority mail). Only thing that’s worth sending through priority mail is bullets as a matter of fact, because they have various flat rate boxes with a weight limit of 70 pounds, and lead is perfect to be sent this way. I believe small flat rate box went for about 8 bucks, larger box could be 20 bucks, but you could send something like 2000 bullets in them. You can fit about 500 30 caliber rifle bullets in a small flat rate box.
Long video, but it explains what’s going on. Huge train of commerce stretching from Japan to Europe.
And you can tell even the US Navy is going down the tubes. The marine expeditionary Force is being dismantled for example.
