You know that suspension bridge somewhere in Beitou connecting to Shizhi island? What the heck is it and why does it look like its under construction but no one is actually working on it? Will it actually finish or is it one of those projects where people got kickbacks and money ran out?
I do not know the answer; however I think you mean Shezi peninsula not Xizhi island.
yea, there’s that big white suspension bridge that’s been there since 2009 and has no traffic on it even today. What’s up with that?
Anyone? Some kind of Mafia imposed gag order on this?
You can see one tower from the Shipai MRT platform. It took me a while to figure out what it was, until they got the cables up I think, or when i saw it from another angle. But no idea where it goes or what.
If you bike along the riverside bike trail, you will pass right under it. There are absolutely no traffic on it and the ramps on or off it looks like its under construction, but no one has been working on it.
Does it cross the Danshui river or Keelung?
keelung river
There is also a plan for a bridge to Luzhou on the other side of the river.
One of Hao’s election promises was a massive urban renewal project to transform Shezi into Taiwan’s very own “Manhattan.” But land acquisition/compensation is going to be very complicated and expensive as the island has thousands of separate land owners. The latest reports are that it will take at least 10 years, if it happens at all.
There has also been talk of locating a casino on the island, and a light rail link is planned.
