SIM Card for NWOHR

Hi! I just landed a few days ago and had a hard time getting a SIM card.

I’m an NWOHR passport holder and I’m in Taiwan to start the process on getting household registration. I tried getting a SIM card at the airport and they said they can only offer me a 30 day sim because I don’t have ARC.

Is there a legal way around this? I actually only need data but having the option to call would be nice as well.

I got a Chunghwa Telecom SIM to start. The other providers won’t even want to sell a SIM to me. When I call 928, I confirmed it expires in 1 month. But, from the prompts, there were also options to recharge? Is this possible on a tourist SIM?

Thanks in advance to anyone who could help!

One u get either TARC or national ID you can convert that number.

For the moment tough luck, you are technically a temporary visitor.

Thanks for letting me know. Does that mean I need to buy a new SIM card every 30 days?

Is there an option for me to get something else like a pocket wifi that isn’t limited to just 30 days?

At this point, happy to just have mobile data for now to help navigate around Taipei.

If you don’t need a local number and are fine with data-only, there should be vendors online selling eSIM-cards.

Check Klook or

Otherwise that might be the easiest way:

Go to y underground mall. Can get 1 year sim prepaid

Good luck

Thanks. I will look into an eSIM. My current phone only accepts physical SIM, so might be time for an upgrade

Is it safe to get a SIM card that way?

Dunno.

I use taiwan mobile 199 a month

That’s the cheapest I heard. What do you get for that NT$199? Was that a special promo or it’s available to all?

you need ARC before you can do the 199 taiwan mobile plan.

standard plan.

but the prepaid sim 1 year is cheaper i heard. unlimited everything. in Y underground mall one of the stalls. not sure where.

Is there anywhere in Hsinchu I can get this?
