Singer causes uproar with ROC flag at UK concert

The Hurt Feelings of the X People. I think I saw that in a drive-in. It was a double feature with Mars Needs Women.
In other news, American rapper 50 Cent is paying Chinese netizens… wait I read that wrong. Oh, you know the story already.

focustaiwan.tw/search/2013110700 … =50%20cent
And WHY do people in Asia use the word ‘netizens’? Is it a translators’ in-joke?

Yeah–what about MY feelings?

If you really want to stump them, ask them this:

When they say that Taiwan is part of China, do they mean that it is part of China RIGHT NOW, or that it SHOULD BE part of China, but is not?

If (a), then say: “In that case, everyone’s happy with the way things are, and we can all go home. Right?”

If (b), then say: “So, you seem to be saying that Taiwan is presently independent…?”

(Wait for heads to explode.)
Shrug. Maybe you just have to admire governments that can make 19 year olds give a shit about what a body of water is called on a map in another country?

It hobbles them in the long run, though. There’s no spark in China, no humour. Everything’s a copy of other countries, from cellphones, to tv, to the space program. ‘Gangnam Style’ did more for Korea than 1000 shitty languages classes or po-faced whines about ‘the hurt feelings of the x people’, as much as it made me want to burst my own eardrums.

Anyway, not sure what I’m entirely saying, other than ‘Stop whining about stupid crap, especially when you’re overseas, because it makes you look like idiots. Stop demanding respect when you aren’t even courteous and make East Asian students famous for something other than causing trouble, plagiarism, and racism.’ And ‘Confucius Centres are shit’.
Sounds to me, Ermintrude, like you need to get the hell out of Dodge before it extracts your soul, drowns it in vat of industrial waste, and chucks in in the nearest sludge-filled river with a fresh set of concrete wellies.

China: J.K.Rowling’s inspiration for the dementors, if I’m not mistaken.

My soul is not affected by either my environment nor by other people, although that’s been a historical trend, not a rule, so I won’t arrogantly state that moving to China and taking up full-time teaching after a haIf a decade’s break was the greatest idea I ever had. We will see what happens. I’m already a bit bored. As you know, I’m not one to be rude, but the other teachers are the usual ‘characters’… I miss my pets and I’m here arguing with the special boys on flob again. Not ideal. I’m here for the money, which is the most I can get without having to cover my hair. There’s a definite time limit.

I just ate bbqed sausage on a stick from a vendor at the gate of my complex, so my ‘soul’ may be troubled in the coming hours, perhaps. Not as flip as it sounds: did you know that 85%of serotonin is housed in the large intestine, not the brain?

I kind of abandoned HP after a while because it seemed so twee and drawn with thick lines, but having googled, they seem like pretty cool baddies, the dementors.

Because we have five thousand years sweet FA. When you guys we’re living in caves, we already had a police state.

so how do I use the patronus charm against them?

Who’s “we” (if you don’t mind me asking)? I’m guessing from your name/avatar and the police-state reference that you’re from somewhere in Africa. Not content with turning their own country into a garbage dump, it sounds like the Chinese are about to turn that continent’s farmland into a chemical-drenched desert.

Yeah, unfortunately, I think that bit is just fantasy.

The rest of it isn’t.

Are you sure that’s a sausage you ate?

You think that’s air you’re breathing now?

I was born in the 1970s in the north of England. Yes, I’m shorter than your average Brit, but as such, I have no need of your ‘earth food’ or ‘oxygen’, Mr La-di-da.

it’s possible that some are not yet aware of the Matrix

cheap crap.

this girl should of just tried to ignore the spoilt brat causing a fuss and not brought any attention to her anti-social antics. the security guards should be trained to throw out any mainlanders that kick off, why shouldn’t they if they can’t play well with others.

sadly none of that will be happening any time soon. what will be happening is more ass kissing and sucking up to china from the west. more media companys being careful not to offend the PRC in what they publish, more hollywood movies putting in chinese content to get their film selected to play in china and get some of that sweet sweet RMB. and more selling out of taiwan to appease chinese brats.

quite funny what another poster said about chinese having an internal struggle when they get their brainwashing questioned. yes, they must be driven up the wall when they see a ROC flag! if you really want to fuck with a mainlander, say that taiwan does not and never has belonged to the PRC. the typical you are a foreigner and you don’t understand 5000 years of blah blah blah is sure to follow.

I think you didn’t read the story close enough. It was a lot of students from China, and I would bet that given China’s population, they outnumbered the Taiwanese students. So, good luck trying to kick them all out, especially when the security guard has no idea if they’re cheering or jeering.

It was a little show at Manchester Uni. Probably at the International Society or one of the small rooms in the Union. There wouldn’t have been any security. And if there was, the security company MU use for their venues is mainly comprised of semi-legal New British who haven’t quite mastered not committing GBH, let alone cross-straits politics.

well if i was her that’s what i would be doing! i would bring taiwanese binglang chewing, baseballbat toting, beer gut proudly showing heavies a long to act as security.

obviously she did nothing really wrong… but anyone knows that mainlander’s flip out at the ROC flag, there was also some fuss over it being displayed in london at olympic time, it kept getting taken down. if i was her i would come prepared!

now its most likely she wont display the flag in future to prevent any more mainland brats jumping out their pram.

i fail to find any “uproar” (but that’s newspaper editors for you).
There was a concert, there was a heckler, and then we have a follow-up with both the heckler and the performer explaining their positions. The position of the heckler is quite understandable, given the brain washing she has gone through and the pressure she is under, and the performer reacts in a mature (balanced and conciliatory) manner.
I hope there will be more performances of this sort, so that the people suffering from brainwashing can start to experience the joys of diversity.

Diversity has no place in the new China.

All is China. China is all.

You are all China.

China are you.

That’s all.

tommy numbers omitted?? I like it, I don’t understand it, but I like it…somehow.

As a Taiwan Independence Supporter, I don’t recognize ROC as a legitimate sovereign regime to rule Taiwan. The flag of ROC should not appear in Taiwan or any inter-governmental events in the world except in Kinmen and Matzu. As in the discussd musical concert, I support the oversea Chinese students’ right of expression as long as they didn’t interfere the listening experience of the audience. Should the flag of Taiwanese Republic be displayed in a similar situation in the future, I will too support their right to protest.

Well, it continued with rumors that China is not allowing her to put on a Beijing concert scheduled for December over the incident.

ironically, Zhang’s background is as pro-China as they come. Her father, who is a late-immigrant with strong ties to the KMT, was promoted to presidential secretary the same time as Ma Ying-jiu. He was appointed to the Mainland Affairs Council and the Straits Exchange Foundation. So basically a specialist in cross-strait affairs and dealings with the Chinese. He resigned after A-bian took office, citing differences in political views. He then took over a cross-strait shipping company and got charged for defrauding investors with Vice President of the legislature Hung Xio-Zhu (he gave her shares because she “helped the company.”

She showed a ROC flag because of her deep KMT background and is proud of being a citizen of the Republic of China. Frankly a true supporter of Taiwanese independence would be much less willing to use the ROC flag to demonstrate their national identity, as the flag itself symbolizes Chinese oppression.

But it just confirms people from China doesn’t give a crap whether Taiwanese are pro-China or pro-TI, Taiwanese are all the same, equally worth punishing for resisting unification with the PRC.
