Draconian punishment for immoral crime.

Yep. All the hallmarks of a predator. Hopefully they caught him before it had progressed beyond photos and videos.
Iâm not sure of the particular case but someone said one problem with civil law is that the judge doesnât have to rule by precedent. But as far as I know criminal cases in Taiwan are judged by a panel of 3 judges. Not corruption proof but itâs something.
This seems to be a case of sexual predator and so they may see the need to hand down a harsh sentence. The judgment will include justification, so you really have to read it to know why the judge handed down the sentence.
Apparently this is the sort of justice you get in small town Oklahoma if youâre âa member of a prominent local familyâ.

Cases like that seem absurd, but I also have no idea about the American justice system. I think you can pick awful examples from any country. Perhaps how someone was acquitted from rape charges in the UK, because he was unaware that it was illegal.
Side note:
Punishment should be proportioned otherwise the victims will just suffer more. People love to demand death penalty for rape etc. without thinking that rape victims would just become murder victims instead. Seeing a rise in punishments and, even worse, the introduction of crimes with no victim have become a new trend.

So what exactly are the parameters of these tiers youâre referring to, hmm? 
Where there is money and power there is injustice. Some poor felons get off on technicalities and free from jail time just because jails are fullâŠor just sit in jail for a year waiting for trailâŠor are sentenced by a judge getting kickbacks from the private prison. Many a county is overwhelmed with crime.
Meanwhile, I remember growing up in a relatively small town which had a private christian university. Everyone in town knew how the university controlled the cops and legal system to their advantage. Too many powerful alumni with kids in attendance. I remember sitting in a doughnut shop overhearing two cops complain about the university (yes, a doughnut shop). They would arrest someone on campusâŠbe writing up the report then have their supervisor to call them to throw out the report and release the suspect. They said they hated going to the university for any calls as was waste of time. Finally the university was brought into the spotlight after so many rapes reported against football players. After investigations even the NCAA dropped their case against the school saying that the NCAA would not pursue penalties because the problem was not just within the athletic department but was âan institution wide problemâ of covering up crime, involvement in coercing police department, pressuring victims to not pursue cases, etc. And after all of this news about their actions, the school still had representatives on talk shows talking about how American needed a university like theirs which âprovided a Christian atmosphere on campus.â

There seems to be a celebrity who shares a name with that person, unfortunately. 
The actual court decision is not available on BAILII, and it seems to have been ignored by the MSM, so we only have very selective details to go by. Those details include the fact that he was given a suspended sentence with probation supervision (not the same as an acquittal last time I checked) and that the judge said he âmust have known it was illegal,â so itâs not quite the same as what you said.
If you want to criticize suspended sentences, or specifically suspended sentences for rapists, go right ahead, but please get the facts straight. Thanks.
