Sleeping with a former student

the chief: I know. Don’t tell anyone though.

That means you are now officially an old fart  Well 18 is a bit young tho. Wait till they are at least in their early 20s?

Then you will be even more official (an old fart).
Original Title: This happen to anyone?

Several years ago I related my problems with my Taiwanese wife. it is a loooong story but in the end we got divorced. That was more than a year ago. I have dated on and off and it has been Ok. But then a few weeks ago I ran into an old student. By old I mean A student I first taught when I got here around 99’ Well in 1999 she was around 13 now she is 24 ( I was 24 then!) Yes, you know where it’s going. We bumped into each other at Sogo one day and did the hey surprised to see you thing. We had dinner together to talk about this and that and we really hit it off. It was like Damn you ARE a woman now! She lived in Toronto, NYC and was pretty mature. After the third date a month later we ended up at my place. The next thing I know is I am waking up Sunday and her nude body is next to me in my bed. I stumbled into the bathroom at noon and felt weird. Well not too much. It is just the feeling this girl was a kid and I have those class photos… and now…well I don’t know if this has happened to any other long timers (maybe huh) and how you dealt with it. But I have to say I gotta see her again! Yes we are of course adults maybe it’s just me!
I don’t want to sound like a dick, but truth be told most people seem to think of me as a dick, so I will just go ahead and sound like what I sound like.

Judging by your signature:

you don’t seem to be as sheepish about this as you try to appear in your post. Just tell it like it is, you saw a former student, she looked fit and you figured WTF not?

you got ‘sex’ in all caps in your signature dude, you aren’t fooling anyone, we know what you are all about.

he’s an English teacher. that’s not gold digging.

You guys are all teachers. I’ve been there on the other side, as the student.

In 2000, after I had my daughter, things went downhill with my then-husband. He was pretty much like, “you wanted her, you take care of her” and he wouldn’t even watch her for five minutes so I could take a shower. I went back to work full-time at Microsoft when Joanne was 6 months old and he still didn’t help me much. I was essentially a single parent but with the rage that comes from living with another grown-up who SHOULD be helping.

Fast forward to April 2001. Joanne was 15 months old and for the first time since she was born, I forced her father to watch her so I could go do something other than work on my own. I went to take a pottery class… I’d taken classes for years before she was born and was pretty good at it for a while, and really liked using my hands to make things. I came home from the first class all “Mark showed us this” and “Mark says that” and my husband was like “you have a crush on that teacher” and I denied it, but of course it was true. Except for the fifteen minute class orientation, Mark and I had talked through all of the class, throwing on wheels next to each other, and during that conversation we discovered that our parenting situations were much the same; he single-parented-with-a-disinterested-partner his daughter as well, only his daughter is 6 years older than mine so he was past all the baby stuff and his daughter was in school.

My husband left Joanne and I six months later (three weeks after I’d had major surgery) and a few months after that, in Jan of 2002, I started dating Mark. In over 20 years of teaching ceramics, I am the ONLY student Mark has ever hooked up with. He had a strict rule against it and never did it despite many hot students coming on to him (if you believe what he says, and given that he’s very attractive and an internationally-known artist, it’s probably true). Of course, while I was in his class, we talked and flirted all the time and he made sure to tell me his rule a few times… especially after my husband left me… but two months after Dan left me, Mark said, “I never do this, but let’s go have coffee”… and gave me his phone number on a slip of paper. I’m not sure which one of us was more surprised…

We dated for three and a half years, until I decided that fantastic friends-with-benefits sex was not enough. I broke things off in the summer of 2005 and met my second husband that winter, online. Mark and I are still friends and who knows where our paths will eventually take us. He swears that he will never hook up with another student though he freely admits he’s glad he broke his rule with me.

There’s some news recently about a night school teacher having affairs with a school owner. She apparently shagged one real old dude and got exposed by the news. It wasn’t long after she moved on to another school and apparently started dating the other schools’ owner, too.

Maybe for some its a fetish not completely love?
