Slow growth in the number of posters

Is it just me or has Forumosa’s growth slowed down? On a typical day there are at any one time about 40-odd people on-line which really isn’t that much more than two years ago. If you had asked me in 2004, I would have guessed by 2006 that Forumosa would have more than doubled in active poster numbers.

On a side note, Taiwan Ho’s forums have been pretty inactive and on the decline; they are lucky to get a total of 20 posts a day!

What’s the problem? Have all the computer users found some cool porn web sites (and not told me about them)?

The recent wave of deportations has cut down on the number of expat English teachers in Taiwan. Hence, less posters.

I check TH daily to see if there’s anything interesting to respond to, but the low number of posts makes that unlikely. So I see it as a critical mass problem; you need to reach a certain amount of posts to stimulate interest by other posters.

As for 'mosa, it seems to be of a pretty healthy size to me, and if it really had doubled in size again, it might be too much work for the mods and admin, no?

That should be “fewer” posters.
I guess we should have kept some of those English teachers…

You mean you haven;t heard of :nsfw: Richards Realm? :nsfw: As far as porn goes, it’s good, varied and free.

Stop trying to look up me trouser legs, ye perv…

I have grown.

Dick’s got bigger, but The Chief hasn’t, that’s why I’m smirking.

I think this will explain the slow growth…

No doubt, what’s the old Mark Twain saw about not stooping to join any club with standards low enough to accept him??

Looks like you could use a few English lessons too. You should spend less time riding on chariots with spiked wheels.
:smiling_imp:

Upsatairs?

Wanna come upsatairs and see my chariot? [/quote]

Wow, I made the incredibly major mistake of substituting the synonym “less” for “fewer”. Zing! You got me. I hang my head in shame.

Funny, I don’t see the problem. What I do see is that Forumosa continues to see about 600 posts a day on average DESPITE moving 5 forums to the Forumosafieds. Back in 2004, I recall there being about 400 posts a day. All this on Word of Mouth and Google.

Now, we are poised to launch a fortnightly print edition of the Forumosafieds, which hopefully will bring even more first time Forumosans to both websites.

Regarding TH, they have always told me that the forums is NOT what the website is about - it’s the features articles and mini-sites. So it doesn’t surprise me that there are only 20-odd posts a day there. It’s an apples-to-oranges comparison.
