We recently received a report about a man secretly breeding many dogs in a cage outside his land. He has over 25 dogs, all have had their voice cords cut. They are mainly Chihuahua (Short coat/long coat), and Dachshund (Smooth) but there are some other small breeds too. There are two mothers with puppies, one set were only a few weeks old.
This is illegal in Taiwan and we have reported it to the Taipei Animal Health Department. However, the Department will not be taking in the dogs. we are planning to take the dogs to be neutered next Tuesday. Once we take them, we hope not to return the dogs to him.
在台灣這是違法的而我們想台北動物衛生局提報了。但是﹐動物衛生局並不會收留他們。我和Liza下禮拜二會把狗帶走去結扎﹐當我們帶走就不會把狗還給那位男士。
Can anyone help foster these dogs or know of anyone who would like to adopt small dogs? Please help us spread the word.
請問你們有任何人可以先寄養這些小狗嗎? 或者知不知道有誰願意領養小狗? 請拜託幫我們傳這消息。
please understand these dogs have been kept in cages for most of their lives and are very tramatized and will need loving care and attention and quite a bit of patience.
First of all i want to thank everyone for your fantastic support and generosity in wanting to help these poor dogs. However, there has been some very dissappointing developments. The breeder has refused to hand over the dogs and we have been informed that we cannot take these dogs by force. The government has visited the breeder and told him he has to chip and vaccinate the dogs and they will be back to check (could be a month or 3 or 6). He has denied breeding and says he gives dogs away and accepts “Hong baos” (red envelops). The government is unwilling at this time to take it any further, they say we need more proof. So at this point we cannot get the dogs. TVBS wants to do a report on this and will be interviewing me and lilian and the breeder tomorrow. I’m not sure how this will pan out.
I’m so sorry for any inconvience caused to the loving people who have offered up their homes for adoption and fostering. We won’t be giving up, but at the moment this is where we are at.
Again i wish to say a very big thank you and my appologies for not doing a better job and getting these dogs out at this present time.
That first picture is heartbreaking. That little mom looks pretty desperate. That man probably plans to breed her over and over until she’s almost dead.
We faced a situation like that twice. The law isn’t written in a way that authorities can intervene past the willingness of the people who have legal ownership of these animals. You’re only avenue is to find a way to convince the man to let the dogs go. Problem is, even if he let go of some dogs, he’s just not going to stop. A fine example of the ignorant backyard breeder in Taiwan. It’s a sad state of affair.
Gosh, please don’t apologize, and please give yourself some credit. You really tried. You are trying your best all the time.
And please, please, please be aware of your own safety. Don’t put yourself in danger with these types. When cornered, or threatened with loss of face, some (as we all know too well) react badly.
Thanks all of you for being big hearted (and taking action where you can).
Where’s that poster who was looking for cat breeders in Taiwan? Take a look. THIS is the kind of situation from which your purebred animal most likely comes from if you buy it in Taiwan.
Yes 8 of the dogs are out. A fantastic volunteer or animalstaiwan (not me) managed to convice the breeder/owner to give up the dogs and he may also give up more in the future. I did nothing exept drive the car (which i may say i did most excellently).
so they are all at my house for the time being, waiting for fosters and adopters to come forward. i will be taking them to the vet on tuesday for neutering, vaccinations and check ups. the chubby short haired Chihuahua has already found a fosterer with hopes of being adopted if she gets on with the person’s own dog.
So there is another female short haired Chihuahua about three years, a female long haired Chihuahua also about three years and a Chihuahua/doberman mix, male about 2 years up for adoption.
The mother and pups will stay with me until the pups can leave their mother and then they will also be up for adoption as will the mother.
So please let me know if you are interested in adopting one of these adorable doggies. They will need a lot of love and patience as they are not socialized and are afraid of people.
My teenage daughters and I would love to have a Chihuahua, maybe even a puppy, and I’m sure I can convince my wife as well. We have two in the US in my oldest son’s care.
We’re in Sinying in northern Tainan County, south of Chiayi.
if you need help fostering, i can take one puppie, and try to convince my neighbour to keep him (his kids want a dog…). And because we don’t have backyard, they need to be small.
For the time being, my whitie also wouldn’t mind having company.
We are still looking for homes for two of the rescue small dogs. We are looking for people to adopt or foster. If you would like to foster we home you can help promote the dog so it has a better chance to get a home and we will of course help promote too. THe mother and pups will be up for adoption in one month time. We will be asking for a donation/adoption of $2000 for the pups, and i will personally come back in one month to take them to be neutered. Please contact me if you are interested.
kjmillig would you be interested in one of the older dogs are are you set on a puppy. as i said the puppies won’t be available for another month. Do you know anyone who would be willing to get the dog down to you?
mr_boogie thank you, as you can see the puppies aren’t ready yet, but you can still work on your neigbour. Or if they would be interested in the older dogs (they are all under 3 years old)
once these are all adopted out we can work on getting more out and finding more homes.
They are really adorable, but really need patience, they have been through a lot and deserve some loving (so do i now after having 14 dogs in my home )
Less mess… I agree. But They can still make a mess. As far as heart goes, Chihuahuas hold their own and then some. I’ve seen my dogs back home and other’s Chihuahuas chase off dogs much bigger than themselves.
I got first to arrange neutering and vaccination for the one I adopted. My wife is wondering if we can have pure breed puppies with another Whitie, but I said I don’t want, because the market is saturated with these dogs, and then we need to have people to find them. And I surely don’t want another case of abandonment like mine…
As for my neighbour, i can only talk to him on weekend (he owns a bushiban, so he doesn’t come home until pretty late).
As we say in Spanish, “no hay santo mas milagroso que la lengua” (me and my big mouth). For my making fun of the poor mini-doggies, this Saturday, when I took Toto to the groomer, she decided to shave all his hair, as it was too tangled.
Result: my Maltese looks like a Chihuahua now. :s
So come and adopt one of these mini-beauties. They have a lot of “spiritual strenght”.
