Judd was 5-1 behind in a best of 11 semi-final when he played that crazy green. Granted, the frame was secure and it would have been 5-2 even if he didn’t make that shot. But he said later that being able to pull that off gave him a ton of confidence.
He later won the semifinal 6-5 in a miraculous comeback, and destroyed Jack Lisowski in the final with a scoreline of 9-2.
Well Hendry hasn’t played competitive “match-play” snooker for 9 years. White has also not qualified for the WSC in the last 16 years. Add to that, the history between these two guys at the WSC.
Quite exceptional to win the third frame without hitting a break over 7. I don’t recall ever seeing that in a professional match.
What else could I expect? Hendry must be hitting decent scores on the practice table or he wouldn’t have attempted a comeback, so I expected it to have been more competitive than this. White looked really nervous. Perhaps the threat of dropping off the tour got to him. Sadly, I wouldn’t be surprised if he needs the money.
Hendry & White have probably made a lot in their prime. They’re both paid for being pundits on Eurosport and BBC as well… Money isn’t likely the motivation
I’m watching snooker shoot out for first time. I didn’t even know this was a thing. It is, weird. I don’t know how to feel about it. I think I’m going to watch Nadal instead. Before it’s too late.
The Shootout is just a fun, take-it-easy sort of Snooker ranking event that many pros believe shouldn’t even be a ranking event per se. What with all the shouting, booze guzzling, wear whatever you like, a count down timer & just a one frame match to decide the winner makes the Shootout more like something one should play in a club or a snooker parlor, not in a venue that’s televised. I like it though, it takes away all the stress the players endure during the other ranking events and makes them look like human beings instead of just a potting machine with no emotions. The 50K pound prize money is also a good initiative. Shaun Murphy hit a 147 at this year’s shootout which is simply amazing! It’s almost a supernatural task in itself to make a 147, but to make it with a timer and a rowdy crowd…
Oh! and that shot made by Jimmy White…it’s a full on top spin shot with lots of power so that when the cue ball bounces off the cushion, instead of rolling back to Jimmy, the cue ball is still spinning forwards due to the top spin and hence due to 2 forces acting in opposite directions, the cue ball comes to a dead stop.
Yeah!!! Watching it everyday…O’ Sullivan decimated Page without breaking a sweat. Looking forward to an awesome final (Trump Vs Sullivan would be awesome) but I really wanna see a new face lifting the trophy like David Gilbert or Lisowski.
Really amazing play to get that 147. Not as fast as Ronnie, but things like the hooting from the peanut gallery made the effort quite challenging. Set up shots very well, no real flukes. Good for him!
The Cyclone Zhao Xintong wins the 2025 Halo World Championship!!! And in doing so becomes the first Asian, the first snooker player from China & the first amateur to ever lift this coveted trophy!
Although he was sort of involved in a match fixing scandal that rocked the sport in 2023 where he received a 20-mth ban, he came back stronger than ever and went all the way to win the World Title, defeating The Rocket Ronnie O’Sullivan & The Welsh Potting Machine Mark Williams, on the way to becoming the World Champion. What an amazing player, hats off to him. I’m sure he will go on to win a few more World Titles in the near future!
