Iām from near Milan, yes. Italian Americans are mostly from the south, at least in the states and Canada. Many are very hard working good people, then ofc you have the bad apples.
As an Ouachita-American, I suppose the best analogy is that the southern Italians to northern Italians is the north/south British split, but in reverse. The Scots-Irish, who were rejected by both Ireland and Scotland, populated the highlands of the South, from West Virginia to Arkansas. And after the coal mines (aluminum factories in my neck of the woods) shut down with the U.S.'s deindustrialization program during the Reagan/Thatcher era, are left with little but decaying, hollowed out communities with a side of meth, and mostly live off welfare from a Federal gubmint that they reflexively despise (funded by librul blue states that they despise much, much more).

They produce an inordinately high number of successful baseball, basketball, and football coaches.
JoePa, Calipari, Rick Pitino, Tony LaRussa, Joe Girardi, Joe Maddon, Geno Auriema, Tommy Lasorda, Joe Torre, Mike Scioscia, Vince Lombardi.
Off the top of my head.
Sports is a secular religion in the South. More funding goes to athletics than education. Iāve been struggling to find a job as an English teacher, despite having a Masterās degree. Meanwhile community college (thatās 2 year colleges for you non-Yanks) graduates are in high demand, as long as itās for PE.
Fuck it all. Iām Welsh/Southern English. But Bono is right on. Fuck Boston.

Itās even more extreme in Australia. They have a national institute of sports research.
I would love to be a sports researcher.
We have this
