Social conditioning?

How much do you think society/social conditioning influences you and your decision making?

  • Not at all…
  • Somewhat … but I don’t really think about it or notice it
  • Somewhat… but I try to pay attention and minimize it
  • A lot… but I’m fine with that
  • A lot … and I don’t like it
  • I honestly have no Idea

I was having a conversation today about society, social pressures, etc. and how much do these things affect our daily lives? How much of your decision making is based on what you really want, and how much is just meeting social norms? Why do you go to work? Why do you go to school? Why you do have a career, get married, buy things, do anything really?. How much of it is really you and how much is external? Not too say work, school etc are good or bad… or that the influences you feel from society family or friends are good or bad… But have you ever wondered how much the really do influence you? And if you have thought about it, what do you think about the effect they have, does it bother you? Do you appreciate (as in you appreciate the guidance) it? Just curious…

When I was in my 20’s social conditioning had a major effect. But now, I’ve come to the conclusion that’ve been chasing my tail and that it has no effect whatsoever. It’s a bit empowering and a bit scary because being ‘independent’ minded doesn’t fit in. Hell, life’s too short. If you know you are free then fly…

Best of luck

hmmm

I pick an choose. If you do no like what sociologists are doing to your mind, then pick up a psychology or psychiatry book. The two disciplines cancel one other out.

I’ll agree, it seems the polite thing to do.
