Does anyone know where I might get a commercial-quality Rubbermaid container for sous vide cooking? If it’s not this exact thing, it just needs to be clear, able to withstand boiling water temperatures, and pretty sturdy.
Pretty sure I’ve seen them on Shopee. (Boiling water would presumably be a fair bit higher than you’d normally use for sous vide, but I think I’ve seen insulated ones too if preferred.)
Yup that’s true! I think I mostly meant hot water-like temps.
And I’ll look there! Edit: And I found a few! It appears the keywords are 低溫慢煮水箱.
Try City Super if you want to see something in person. They tend to have a lot of “fancy” (in the minds of Taiwanese) kitchen gadgets. OXO containers and tools and such. But be prepared to spend 2-5x more than it would cost in the US (I seem to remember a 2 cup Pyrex measuring cup costing NT600)
Yes, I just ordered a sous vide machine off Amazon US for this reason. It’s half the price of the one available at Costco TW and has free shipping.
Be careful of import taxes though. I think they’re almost 20%. That may or may not explain why imported stuff can be so darn expensive here (though that seems like an excuse and not a real reason). If the seller goes through the postal system it’s usually fine, but FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc. often means there’s a really annoying bill due upon delivery that you weren’t always expecting… (obviously this only applies to orders over a certain amount)
Amazon US seems to charge this upfront, it appears to be roughly 10-15%. I’d prefer if it wasn’t there but it’s not that much more than US sales tax…so it’s not too bad. The main drawback is that instead of 2-day shipping you get 2-week shipping.
