Spanish resident deported

I was going to post this but was brought to another thread lol

Spanish fugitive ordered to leave Taiwan

Businessman on Interpol’s ‘red list’ for auto fraud ordered out of Taiwan by Oct 23

He was reportedly deported early yesterday.

There are some legal compexities here with the Taipei High Court and the NIA having different views. I wonder if we’ll hear more about this case.

Guy

According to Taiwanese media reports, Onate, 48, entered Taiwan on a dependent visa in 2019 and obtained permanent residency in 2021.

How did he get an APRC in less than three years?

More details in this article:

Seems they rushed the deportation for no good reason, potentially breaking the law.

This guy alone really took that much ? This is going to need a lot more than one person to pull off.

Through the scheme, the 48-year-old raked in about 30 million euros (US$32.77 million) in profit, international news media reported. His car rental firm declared bankruptcy in 2019, and he vanished not long afterwards.

He was deported from Taiwan to Singapore and then by Singapore back to Taiwan where he was refused entry on Oct 20 and sits waiting now

I wonder why they sent him to Singapore? No direct flight?

Also the court ordered him released by NIA before being deported but they still deported him anyway. Only TW citizenship would have prevented NIA from being able to deport him.

Yep they didn’t give him due process because they were embarrassed I guess.
It is interesting that they stuck him on a flight to Singapore, they assumed SG would deal with it because they are part of interpol? SG must have checked him and go nope he’s living in Taiwan for years, not our problem.
Assumed wrongly .

Since he’s refused entry back to Taiwan, the court may not be able to help him reverse the decision anymore. Seems NIA may have went ahead knowing nothing he could do about their decision.

. . . and he’s back!

Doesn’t EVA operate nonstop flights to Milan?

Guy

I can hear CIB now: FUCK!!!

Why did Taiwan send a Spanish criminal to China though? it’s weird :upside_down_face:

We need a clean police cert to get an APRC, wonder how he got that? Wonder if he has one at all or just a JFRV?

If you got millions of euros, it can move mountains. I wouldn’t necessarily say bribes, but probably money for lawyer, very good, well connected lawyer certainly plays a part.

He likely came to Taiwan because Interpol can’t do much here, and it isn’t North Korea.

Reports in Chinese seem to suggest that he was in the process of applying for an APRC after having lived here for 5 years since 2019.

I’m guessing he chose to fly to Singapore the first time (rather than the authorities forcing him to do so). Now that he’s been denied entry by Singapore, he has to fly to a destination of his choice other than Singapore.

If they want him THAT bad, they can come to Taiwan and try and nab him. I’ve heard of this being done.

Maybe as he is wanted in Italy and has not been convicted in Italy yet.

Yes, but in this case it looks to me like Singapore didn’t want to have to deal with it.

This interests me. Can you provide some more details beyond what you have heard?

It’s only a possibility… but he’d have to be someone they want BAD.

He doesnt need police certificate from his country if he has lived here for five years.

Yes I think you are right. Anyway he was here on a jfrv not APRC I guess.
