Spouse ARC Hassles

Found out today that for my wifes ARC application, they need an Endorsement of our Marriage Certificate…
…no problem I thought, until they said the endorsement needs to be done at the Taipei Cultural office in NEW ZEALAND, and requires my passport also!!

Problem is, my passport is currently with the Taiwan Govt getting my work permit and ARC, and when I get it back i need it to go traveling soon after until the end of Aug.

Another problem, is time is ticking off my wife’s 60 day visa (approx 25 days left) so if I wait until I get my passport back from the Taiwan Govt, then send it to NZ along with the Marriage Cert, theres a good chance it may get held up and her visa run out and my passport ain’t back for me to travel.

Is there anyway I can get this endorsement done in Taipei???

I doubt very much that they need your passport. I have had documents endorsed by thge Taipei Cultural Office in NZ without them needing my passport. Best bet - send your marriage certificate to a family member/friend in Wellington (or Auckland if they have a branch) and ask them to take it in in person. Give them a photocopy of your passport if you have one on you. Don’t wait til you get your passport back, get things moving fast, because you are runnign out of time, and you don’t knwo what other snags you are going to hit.

Well I quizzed them some more, saying I simply don’t HAVE my passport, so they said photocopies of both passports would be OK on this occasion.

I Have couriered off all the stuff to them this afternoon.

BTW for anyone else, they don’t accept Credit Card or bank transfers so you need a NZD cheque (personal or bank draft.)

Excuse my disbelief at the hassle of this. I hope I don’t even more cynical during my time here

I just applied for my wife based on my ARC:

  1. I needed to show the MOFA the TECO stamped marriage certificate.
  2. I needed to show a medical exam for my wife done in Taiwan (she did it at one of the official hospitals … RenAi Hospital).

The MOFA then took another week to process the Resident Visa based on JFRV (joining family resident visa) … Then went down the NPA to get the ARC, which took another severals days to process.

No problems in the process.
