Hello! Little backstory, I went to college in Taiwan (NTNU). Graduated, moved back to the United States, got married, realized I hate it here, and I’m trying to go back to Taiwan, so that I can be paid a living wage and have some health insurance. I’m not worried about me getting a job, and I’m not worried about my husband coming over and getting an arc. That all is going to work out.
My ultimate problem is that he will need to contribute financially somehow eventually. Unfortunately, he does not have a bachelor’s degree, because he is really smart and ended up just doing what he was good at anyways (tech support for any and all things). Without a degree. So he won’t be able to come teach, or get any of those jobs that foreigners usually get. And he definitely isn’t necessarily “qualified” for any jobs in the private sector. I’m looking for a foreign-owned company, restaurant, brewery, pub, something along those lines, maybe a foreign branch in Taipei that needs extra help who would be willing to sponsor him for a work permit so he can work a few days a week. Although that would be underutilizing his genius, it’s a sacrifice we’re willing to make for the time being LOL.
Eventually we plan to return him to college so that he can establish a self-employment option, offering tech support to foreigners running businesses in Taiwan.
Y’all lemme know if any of this is possible or makes sense.
If he has IT experience, he may be able to get employed in Taiwan. You definitely don’t need a bachelors degree if you have experience in the IT sector. The issue will be finding a company that is both willing to hire him, and sponsor his work permit.
If he can prove his experience or skills, degree or years of experience can be exempted.
Specialists who have been trained professionally or self-taught in the specific field and have more than five years experiences in related skills and have demonstrated outstanding performances.(Note: The ministry has established a consultation procedure for expatriates as professional and skilled workers to be exempted from the five-year work experience requirement. But those acknowledged as startup with innovation capabilities are not subject to the limit on years of work experience.)
You went to college here in Taiwan and graduated from NTNU.
Are you a Taiwanese citizen?
If you are a Taiwanese citizen, then your husband will be able to get a Joining Family Resident Visa and with that comes open work rights. He will be able to secure any type of employment that he’s qualified for without needing a college degree.
Not sure… but is the gold card an option? I could be wrong but I believe that they’re given out case-by-case. If he has a track record of excellent skilled experience, it might work. (maybe)
