I was wondering if any of you have any info. on any stand-up comedy performed in English in Taipei. How much is it? The address? A website available for me to look at? Reservation needed or not and stuff? And comedian you know of that is good? Thanks!
comedy.com.tw is the web site of the comedy club in Taipei. That’s the biggest place that has regular shows.
The price is usually about $350 for a show. That also includes a drink. They have an English show usually about once a month and Brian David Phillips has a hypnotist comedy show there regularly now that is worth checking out. Not stand up, but very entertaining.
The next stand up show I am aware of in Taipei (in English) is January 18 and 19. Not sure of the details of it yet. Maybe Hartley can shed some light on that.
I can sit here and say, “we’re all good,” but that just boils down to a matter of taste. The comedians have a wide range of experience and quite different talents in their comedy. What’s great about the comedy show is there are several of us working on the same show. So you get a wide variety of styles.
For the comedy club, reservation is not needed, but strongly recommended. We have shows that you can walk in and we have shows that sell out before the doors even open. It’s not a big club in terms of how many people it holds, so you may not get in.
There are other stand up shows that pop up in Taipei every now and then. Keep an eye on the events page for more as they come up. A few of us were talking about doing a tour during Chinese New Year.
My next show is Dec 15th in Taichung at the Grooveyard. It’s a spoken word show called “Word Alive.” I figure a comedy show would work for that, so why not?
One other thing, the comedy club has an open mic night once a month. Both foreigners and Taiwanese people attend it. I can never make it because I live so far away. There’s also a new improv comedy group in Taichung that is just starting.
