Starting a business in Taiwan

Hey Everyone,

I’m sure there’s a thread somewhere about this, but I can’t seem to find one. How does one go about starting a business in Taiwan? More importantly, where does one (that would be me, in this example ) go to find information from the horses’s mouth, preferably in English? Additionally, does anybody have any pointers or first-hand experience that they could pass on?

Thanks in advance!

Matt

I’d suggest getting in touch with JusRegal jusregal.com/English.htm

It all depends on what type of business you want to set up really, but there’s some information on their website with regards to requirements on your side.

LostSwede,

Thanks a bunch – that’s really helpful. Now hopefully somebody will come along whose brain I might be able to pick just a bit, and then I’ll be good to go! Thanks, man!

You can find a whole forum of topics dedicated to this question here: viewforum.php?f=88

If you tell us your location and type of business, chances are good that are others here who can provide you with more information.

I’m starting in the United States, coming to Taiwan in late August. I’ve got a small academic editing business, with most of my clients being international graduate students. But I haven’t registered any trademark or set up a limited liability. So unfortunately, I think it’s probably too late to get all of that together before I come to Taiwan. Am I right? If I were able to get my affairs in order here in the States before arriving in Taiwan, would I be able to do the necessary visa juggling after arrival? And with a small business, what are the capital requirements? Since I operate out of my own home here, I’ve got low overhead, but also haven’t built up a much of a capital reserve.

Wowsers – good info! Thanks!
