Strange noise from my scooter

Guys, my scooter started to produce some strange noise after some time of driving and exceeding some speed limit(say 50). Here is some audio I recorded(safely :P): picosong.com/EGCC/
The sound is from 44 sec.

The scooter rides well, just that noise distracts me :frowning:

Check to make sure you’re not dragging some poor pedestrian behind you.

    :bravo:

Sounds like a fan belt going to an alternator.
Put some chewing gum underneath it.

Seriously, does that work?

(I feel my Prince-of-Punk-Technology throne under threat)

May you please provide some details about the procedure? I am a newcomer to this craft. Also, after I encounter a hillock, the noise will stay off for a while.

Please, give at least some initial ideas and information. I told the owner what is the possible problem was. Tomorrow I am planning to repair that that I do not know what, lol :open_mouth:

If it is the fan belt, there can be different problems with it.
It could be too loose. In that case, there might be a screw somewhere to tighten it, depends on the design.
Anyhow, a loose fan belt would cause it to slide thus making some noise or stop doing what it’s supposed to do all together.
Another problem could be the belt’s alignment causing it to grind on its side.
The chewing gum only helps when the belt slides and slips without functioning anymore.
It’s a temporary fix to get you to work and home till you found a mechanic.

You can put some baby oil onto the belt and see if the noise disappears. If so, you’ll know it’s the belt and need to permanently fix it.

If it isn’t the fan belt, it could be the clutch or anything else.
Get an electric scooter! Less noise and pollution.

Good luck!

Scooters don’t have fan belts :S, the only belts they have are drive (CVT) belts, I would put my money on that being shredded. Get it changed quick before if snaps and leaves you stranded.

I knew that but I don’t know a universal name for that type of belt.

Thanks for your replies! I would try to fix it today and if it looked too complicated, I would get it to the shop to repair! Thanks!

guys, a new update is that it is not engine at all. The sound comes from the from part of the motorcycle. Possibly from the honk. May it be?

God damn it, you guys!! I’d look at the transmission and see if the part that’s connected on the engine side is on tight.
Sounds like the nut there is loose and the face drive plate (the part on the engine side) is rubbing against the transmission
cover. The only problem in trying to fix that on your own is that you need a tool to hole that plate if you don’t have an
impact wrench handy. I know that sound well, as I’ve heard it 3 times before. The first time, it scared the shit out of me
and I couldn’t drive my scooter. Had to walk to work from where my scooter died. Paid money to bring it home and
took a real look at it and felt like kicking myself when I figured out it was that as I have the tools to fix it. When I heard
it again, I had my tools with me and fixed it on the road side. Same thing for the 3rd time… Now I’m not worried about
it, as I know I have that puppy torqued down tight.

It does not seem to be a problem with engine. The sound goes from the front part of the scooter and after encountering a hillock on a road, the noise will stay off for a while. May it be concerned with the honk?
