Suppose I want to do karaoke, but with new songs

I have access to many karaoke places which have very old karaoke songs. The Chinese songs are 20 years old. The English songs are about 40 years old.

I like karaoke, I just don’t want to sing an American song from 1974.

The problem is that all the KTV places seem to be owned by two or three companies, and they don’t need to change the way they do business.

Is there a solution to this? Are there KTVs with updated music?

I would love to know if there is such a KTV too.

Cashbox Party World have up to date English songs. there are several branches you could go to, one in Linsen North Road, one near Hsimentin and one in Zhong Hsiao East Road. We have done a couple of Karaoke Parties in some of those venues.

The most modern it gets is Backstreet Boys.

Last time we were there, they even have Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen, and that was a year ago.

Cashbox only adds one or two English pop songs each year, and usually the really bad ones…

Is there some way like we could DL the songs from YouTube and bring them to play at the KTV? You can still get the food, the “you do not have to clean it yourself” room and staff and stuff but then you could have your own choice in music?

This would be fantastic for us Spanish speakers. I mean, if there is a song in Spanish it is that one 80 year old ditty… I refuse to say the same… and you guys complain…

In older KTVs where the KTV machine is exposed, there are ways to accomplish that. But in an establishment like cashbox, where the TV and machines are locked behind panels, it’s more difficult.

It would be asking for extra service, then. Back to the drawing board…

This is one reason why I don’t go to KTV’s, songs that sound like crap and cheesy. But then again, I don’t know if modern songs are any better…

Maybe the reason KTV adds songs so slowly is because of rights and stuff?

There are a couple that have extensive English song lists, one is near Taipower and one is near Minsheng West Road. I have no idea what the names of them are though, but they’re not one of the big companies and the rooms are kinda small.

some has said this KTV has more current English songs

I’ve never been to it…

I assume (based on nothing) that they have contracts with local record companies to bring in popular songs automatically, but when it comes to overseas albums they have to do it case-by-case. We all know that Taiwanese businesses pa mafan (and it’s probably more expensive to get the rights from greedy US record labels, to boot).

it’s also probably a lot more expensive than getting locals songs and fewer people will sing them. the few original MVs they have I think they got special deal with the record company (they have call me maybe’s original MV). I think most karaokes in the US don’t use the MV, I think they don’t use original arrangements either. Probably cause it’s expensive.

You can check this Karaoke (free) software: kibosh.org/pykaraoke/

The only problem is managing to get your files from somewhere, but that can be done. When I went to Japan, they had some spanish songs in their song lists, but they were mostly crap (Julio Iglesias, Camela, and things like that). In Taiwan they don’t even have good songs in english…
