Taichung Sucks Ass!

there are some nice people but they are a bit dull. The rest suck! Me included. how do you survive this shithole?!

By messing around with gangster’s girlfirends…

I spent my first year in Taiwan in Taichung before moving up to Taipei for a lass and a scholarship at Shi Da. I loved the 'chung dearly, and while most of the old gang have now moved on, while they were there I would relish each and any opportunity to get back there.

Aside from the good people I knew there, the other positives were the generally more laid back - relative to Taipei - feel of the place, a far greater number of clear sky days and less humidity, the number of funky artsy little hideaways, the great eating, the ease and pleasure of jumping on a bike and hitting the country side and mountain roads.

I miss the place dearly.

The carnies too, right? (especially carrying them up the stairs)

At first I thought “Taichung Sucks Ass!” was the name of a new band.

Better weather, better whoring, more relaxed, cheaper food is what I hear.

Lived in TAichung for a year in 86. Good memories !!!

Taichung was great in the nineties - now, :idunno:

I’ve always perceived the place to be a bit of a shithole, earthquakes notwithstanding…

Then again, a place is what you make of it.

this would be true if I were the only one in existence.

Yep. Once it was a better place to live than Taipei and certainly Kaohiung and Tainan but all these cities have had engaged in conscious urban improvement projects over the past 10 years, including MRTs, buses, parks, river bike paths, corner cleanups, etc. Taichung is lagging as the mayor seems more concerned about finding that one building that will be his legacy than creating a livable city. Compare Hu’s focus on getting a Gugenheim with Hau’s focus on improving the roads in Taipei.

fair enough. But I was just trying to be nice. As a Tainan boy I’m pretty one eyed. Apart from Tainan, all other cities suck, with the possible exception of Pingtung county…

That’s why I upped my bags and got out of there,
Here is so much better*Pingtung

Activities to improve life in Taichung:

Increased drinking.
Fighting.
Smoking weed.
Soundgarden.
Messing about with the hostess girls.
Meeting some of the regular Taichung creatures. (Londoner is a good start)
Become a D.J.
7-11 step beers. Preferably litre bottles of qingdao (excuse spelling)
Playing 1nt a minute pool with the gangsters on DongShr Lu.

Any mix of the above.

You know what they say if Taichung sucks - breathe deeper.

I thought Soundgarden was closed?

Don’t go to Soundgarden then. Chaon says it is closed.
Carry on with the options.

Or:

Go to science museum area, act like twot.
Eat ice cream served by Hairy Turk.
Buy food in Finga’s base camp, pretend it is reasonable.
Join world gym :astonished:
Eat subway sandwiches near the bus terminal and eye-boggle at the shit service.
Go to the old bus terminal, and laugh.
Cross the road under the fly over at Chung Gung. Go annoy the guy in the cycle shop on the corner.
Smell the night air in November. Is that spunk?
Take a taxi, speak exclusively in English. Laugh.
If 2 tigers is open go there at night and sit upstairs. See how long it takes for someone to go for a piss. Then wait and try to beat that record.

Spent almost the whole of 86 in the Chung. And it was really nice. Shouldve bought that apt I rented for 6000nt for 1.3 million NT> Shoulda woulda coulda.

Taichung was pretty magical then. There were a lot of these huge cafes. THE DUKE , POMPIDOU and others were some of my fav. And the taichung girls I met (one of whom I married) were pretty sweet too.

All in all, it was a happening place then.

Donno what its all like now tho?

2 Tigers is closed. Here are some other enjoyable options:
Lose to Chaon in Axis & Allies
Lose to Chaon in chess
Lose to Chaon in poker
Lose to Chaon in beer drinking, in conjunction with one of the above
