There are others in the train station area. One is Fei Gou (aka FreeGo). I think Kuo Kuang (aka Taiwan Bus) goes, too. Unfortunately, I don’t know their schedules, and I don’t trust Taiwanese websites to be up to date. Give yourself plenty of time and, if your Chinese isn’t so good, practice the phrases asking where the respective bus stations are.
It can take 2 hours when there’s no traffic up to 3.5 hours if it’s a holiday.
@SlowRain really? 2-3h? you mean Taichung airport? on the map it’s maybe 20-30km away from the train station. I’m not going to Taoyuan airport near Taipei, I’m flying from Taichung with HK express.
The bus is an hour or an hour and 10 minutes but you said up to two hours or up to three and a half hours of traffic so I thought maybe you’d seen traffic recently and there was construction or something.
It’s not really far, but traffic can be horrible getting from train station to outside of the city. A reasonably expected time would be an hour to an hour and a half maybe more with traffic
I asked a friend, she suggested to get off at ShaLu (沙鹿) station, which is closer to the airport. From there, according to Taichung E-Bus website, bus n.162 should take only 15 minutes:
