I’ve recently moved to Houshampi area and I’m amazed at the amount of fluff that appears out of nowhere and covers my floor. I mean I did expect dust, maybe soily stuff if its windy but the stuff on my floor is like fluff out of a clothes dryer.
Has anyone else got this? I’m guessing the fact I’ve got a rooftop house has something to do with it.
I’m not quite sure how its getting in but I’d like to try to stop it or reduce it, has anyone found a solution to this? air purifier perhaps?
I live there too, on a rooftop, but I don’t know anything about fluff. my roof gets a fresh layer of black soot ever week that requires hosing and scrubbing, but no fluff.
Is it dryer vent linen or dust bunny like?
My experiences living on this rooftop have really changed my attitude towards Taipei air quality.
HHoushampi is hardly an industrious area of the city so I can’t imagine there’s a unique pollution phenomenon found here.
Sounds pretty strange. There’s a kind of tree that produces fluff but in the fall if I remember.
Hi and welcome to the neighborhood! I have the same in my staircase and, and least in our building’s case, that’s a kind of mold that grows only during super-humid weather (like in these weeks).
Thanksfully no mold, I do appreciate that this place isn’t all soggy and rotten like my last place in nangank. The fluff is irritating though, I’m not sure what dryer vent linen and dust bunny fluff are like, its not like animal hair if thats what you mean, a bit like little strands of dark blue/purple/black (not sure which, I aint got good colour vision) cloth material. Might be from some laudry place around here, theres three I’ve found in the neighbourhood but I’m not living above one or anything.
I’ve been considering trying to cover the ceiling with something (not sure how) in case its the fake ceiling thats letting it in. So you guys don’t need to sweep like 3 times a week (although could do it every day at this rate) to get rid of this then?

Nope.
Maybe asbestos?
Is there construction near you?
Last time I checked asbestos was white and it doesn’t look like asbestos. Not aware of any constructions around me. I’m suspecting the laundrets now. Maybe I can get a photo using a microscope
Fluff? Just strange. I don’t know what it is either. You guys have pictures?Ha! It sounds weird to me.
If you want we can meet up so you can give me a sample. I can then try to have someone take a look at it in my lab.

Is this “someone” named Alfred and you have a cave under your mansion?
What kind of lab have you got? I was going to shove it under the microscope in my lab just out of geeky curiosity. I’d rather have a solution though than an oow it comes from here but that doesn’t stop it continuing to decorate my floor.
My gf is doing microfluidics and has a bunch of collegues who majored in Biology (supposing the misterious fluff is biological in nature). I was going to ask her. Us physicists are no good at identifying strange fluffs…
hahaha I’ll pass you a sample for her to play with next forumosa gathering then Assuming I’m back from holiday and the fluff is still there. There should be a considerable amount when I get back argh!
I use to live there too . That area has the worst air quality , I started to have trouble breathing after only 2 months. Then I moved and have no problems now. I dont know what it was but Fluff mold ??? I would get the hell outta there.
If you suspect it’s coming from outside, check your mosquito screens for the same stuff caught in them, or hang some clear sticky tape on the rooftop for a couple of days and see what sticks to it.
My money would be on mold, though. I’ve seen white, fluffy mold grow on paint. Maybe it’s growing on your ceiling or walls and then falling to the floor where it’s more obvious.
Well, I know it sounds horrifying but it actually shows up in the stairwell only. About the air quality, how can it be that bad, given that there are the four beasts peaks with all their trees just behind my place? Or did you mean the area on the other side of Zhongxiao E. Road, closer to WuFenPu? I always feel the air down around Zhonxiao Dunhua intersection or close to Taipei Main to be much less breathable than here.
Genius!

Wait a second. You are going away for a while? Who is looking after your place? It’s going to be mold central if someone isn’t turning on the dehumidifier or aircon every day or two.
Do you regularly run a dehumidifier or aircon (even in winter) to dry out the place?
