So turns out that if you use Taipei metro a certain number of times in a month you get some cash back. Downloading and adding your Easy Card to the Easy Wallet app, you can see all the refunds you have got over the last few months.
The problem is that it ONLY counts MRT. Bus does not count, so if you are taking the bus more often it does not apply.
Also if you ride more than 20 times per month you are better off getting all pass ticket. The refund doesn’t trigger if you ride less than 10 times per month.
I don’t think that’s necessarily true. In April I rode 22 times, spending $630 and getting refunded $95. The all pass ticket would have cost me over $1000. Because I can’t make use of the bus, which is also included in the pass, over 20 rides on the MRT alone would not make the all pass ticket more economical.
And it provides freedom to just simply hop on and off a bus to go down the street instead of walking. My public transport usage ballooned after buying it.
Yes, I am a fan of the Taipei All-Pass - had always bought one when I stayed in Taipei for more than a month. I was able to use it to visit places like Jiufen, northern coastal towns, Wulai, etc. One definitely increases public transport usage after buying it.
Kaohsiung has a similar scheme called Men Go card (terrible name!): NT$1250 for a physical card (Easy Card/iPass, etc.), and NT$1150 for a QR Code pass. Beside the same unlimited MRT/Bus/You Bike rides as Taipei, one also gets 4 free ferry rides to/from Cijin, plus NT$600 in points to use on Taxi, e-scooter rental, and parking. I am a huge fan.
Yeah, before I would’ve been like, it’s $15… I’ll just walk or do it when I am closer. Now I am doing things that would’ve cost me $100 because I jump on and off the bus.
Even counts for the 862. Greater Taipei’s most expensive bus with 8 sections.
