The pay is higher than I thought, maybe above most workers pay now
Wow same salary as president
I think they make more than that? Google search Taiwan Pres:Monthly Salary: $450,000.
Jesus they make more than most English teachers. I should become a bus driver. What’s the catch?
You will have to work hard and deal with insane drivers and customers. You will learn the art of the clutch and brake, preferably at the same time !
Actually they are just starting to open up hiring for foreign bus drivers.
You can study in Taiwan and then become a bus driver. Pretty generous
.
I think they’ll struggle badly to get many candidates. Most foreign students with decent Chinese won’t be flocking to this. Depends on how strict they are with the rules.
To qualify as cargo vehicle drivers, cargo driving assistants, bus drivers or SMS personnel for highway and city bus services, international students must have at least an associate’s degree or higher, the bureau said.
They must also pass Mandarin-language proficiency tests, undergo certain hours of language and technical training, and secure required certificates, it added.
Well, I speak Chinese to C1 level, so I’ve got that part. I don’t know how to drive a bus, but I’m British so I know how to drive a manual car.
A quick google search shows that bus drivers in the U.S., Canada, and Australia earn $4,000 - $5,000 U.S. per month, quite a bit more than the proposed $3,400 (100,000 NT), and slightly less than the U.K. $3,700. Which means that, at least in the U.S., a bus driver makes the same monthly salary as an English teacher. Unless he’s a school bus driver in which case he makes a lot less because it’s a part-time paid by the hour job.
The problem with comparisons abroad is one needs to compare everything. A person in Taiwan can easily rent a home for 5k nt whilst in Canada it’s more like 25k. There are differences. A Burmese person might thunk rent here is expensive, but they may drive as safe as taiwnaese. Same for Vietnamese etc.
I remember a thread this year where someone was mentioning taiwan protects against foreigner bus drivers. Forgot the thread and discussion, but at least this is a step forward. Doesn’t matter if foreigners want to or not (thats a choice), the only point is it’s now open. Freedom evolved 1 more step.
Why do I get thebfeeling the KEY point is being avoided. BETTER driving skill. The bus drivers still drive for shit. Test hard, punish harder.
If you test harder you have NO bus drivers.
The solution is simple , AI and get rid of the humans in the loop.for the simpler bus routes.
Taiwan is behind on this!
Maybe Taiwan bus company needs make web site like this
#confucias, accept the hopeless
Ain’t that a bitch ![]()
But, still. Greater incentives make it work. Basically pay more and they will attract drivers that get tested HARD. Taiwan mostly farming out public transport to 3rd party private companies I doubt will work out. But no harm in bringing them back into government sphere and being held accountable for a higher pay/benefit.
I’m only kidding, you know I’m not that fucking naive…
A person in Taiwan can easily rent a home for 5k nt whilst in Canada it’s more like 25k
In cities which have buses you can maybe rent a room for 5k. Maybe. To say that 5k in Taiwan is equal to 25k in Canada suggests you don’t know what you’re talking about.
The Highway Bureau has reportedly given up on the idea of foreign grads working as bus drivers. Didn’t go down well with the public. They were going to pay them 50k.
I hate the bus drivers more than any others on the road.
Psychos
Taiwan is going to xenophobia itself out of existence.
Anyone coming from vietnam or india for example can be a really great bus driver here. The kind of traffic they have to deal with there, here its nothing in comparison.
I asked my uncle about this and he said that bus driving is hard work, and it’s really easy to get your pay docked because some karen decided to complain about something. Oh and if you ever get into an accident, even through no fault of your own (because a scooter decided to cut you off), they will throw you under the bus.
I heard you get docked about 8000nt for each complaint.
Yesterday when i was in the bus, the driver accidently closed the door on a girl’s face although she was fine. The driver then got out of the bus and walked for a minute or so to find that girl to say sorry and then came back. The bus was waiting for like 2 minutes. I could see another complain coming just for that.
