Always love a good talk about Taiwan by large channels.
Interesting to see how Taiwan high tech will ramp up for this. I was just looking into Taiwan’s drone manufacturing industry, and it is quite interesting, and sadly all private.
Good stuff, good stuff. Thanks, @Marco.
Edited to add, in case anyone missed this from nearly two years ago, or forgot it:
–Annabelle Liang, “Elon Musk wades into China and Taiwan tensions,” BBC News, October 10, 2022
I don’t hate Musk, and I’m not trying to get anyone else to hate him; he has his interests.
But I think Taiwan needs to take care of its interests, especially its vital ones. So I hope Taiwan gets that network up and running.
Same here. I think Taiwan can ramp it up fast enough. It would certainly add legitimacy to Taiwan’s place in the world.
I’ve said this before. Taiwan can certainly leverage its high tech manufacturing capabilities to create their own satellites.
The only thing will still be the need to use companies like spacex to launch those satellites as that’s a completely different technology that would likely not be cost efficient for Taiwan to attempt and possibly fail for many years before getting it right.
Better to transform North Korea into a regional satellite launch hub. Kill three birds with one stone.
NK rocket launching and nuclear capabilities are using Taiwans supply chain to supply tech to them. That’s why they have a trade office in Taiwan.
It’s actually surprising no one has called out Taiwan for trading with NK. I suppose the benefit of not being a real country is you can get away with stuff because you don’t exist
Foot in the door.
I haven’t had time to watch the video but perhaps it addresses this.
Starlink has a contractual obligation to provide satellite services around the Asian pacific for the US military. I think the tricky part is that that means it cover Taiwan and the South China Sea.
Elon however is of course heavily invested into Chinese manufacturing of Tesla so it puts him in an awkward position. I think it’s a mistake. I think Tesla is falling out of favor in China and Americans won’t like Chinese made teslas. I’ve heard many American won’t buy certain Tesla’s that made in China.
It does.
Whoa, I missed the memo on this one.

Do you have more information regarding this?
I believe the Tsai admin has cracked down on trade with NK. There were several embarrassing moments like Kim Jung Un using a HTC phone.
The electronics equipment has been suspected to be used in their weapons program in some capacity. But it’s not been directly linked for obvious reasons. But it’s not unreasonable to believe it has aided them in that way as they are a military first economy.
You can probably find some articles indicating what I’ve said.

I don’t believe Tesla sells any Chinese made cars in the US, so relatively few Americans have that choice to make.
