Do you mean a lawyer for the renouncing part or the TW citizenship part? Renouncing is pretty straight forward, just schedule an appointment with AIT and you may need to wait up to 6 months for the appointment.
You might want to do some tax planning with a US tax lawyer or CPA familiar with the tax laws
Thanks. I’m looking for a lawyer for the applying for citizenship part as I’m guessing my paperwork from ten years ago is obsolete now. I’ve got the renunciation/expatriation part under control. Back in 2014 I actually went to AIT by appointment and told them I was renouncing. I didn’t submit the required paperwork though because my wife asked me to wait.
I don’t see how you could get out to Japan faster than anyone else. I don’t think many will wait for our incompetent govts to charter evac flights.
I personally will try to get to Japan or philippines, but if everything starts with a blockade I don’t see how anyone could leave without being intercepted.
It will be easier to get to Japan than it will to Los Angeles if the tofu hits the fan. Plus being a legal resident with a home in country will make it easier to get past immigration.
Applying for citizenship is very easy, you do not need a lawyer. I submitted my application last month. Feel free to PM me with your LINE ID and I’d be happy to go over what you need
The local HHR office can guide you in the naturalisation process (some better than others of course ) and they are the ones who act as your ‘agent’ as such.
There are many good reasons why. How about not having to pay taxes to the US government when you don’t live or work in the USA. Citizenship here has many benefits over APRC JFRC and other ARC holders.
Big plus. Until recently I believed China planned to use military force to take control of Taiwan. Based on things Xi has said and developments in China I now believe China understands the cost would be too high and is taking the long term/status quo view on unification.
Maybe not considering how Japan banned legal residents from coming back during COVID times. They seem to have no problems in segregating people if they feel it’s in their interest.
Not so sure about that, since they have a keen interest in wiping out those “separatists” instead of having to chase them over the whole globe, so they might try to cleanse before letting people slip through.
Made a call to MOI 內政部 by calling 1996 and asked about dual citizens applying for naturalization. The response was “if we know about both nationalities we will ask you to renounce both.”
Went to zhongzheng HHR where I took my language exam. The lady in charge of naturalization seemed eager to help me but couldn’t because I don’t live in the district. I asked her if dual nationals need to renounce both. She said if I didn’t tell her she wouldn’t know I have two.
Not really sure what to do now as it seems like MOI will not go out of their way to look for dual nationals but this lady at HHR seems hell bent on letting them know
