The last time the world population was half of what it is now was 1973. It took 50 years to double the population and wipe out all of Thanosâs gains. He should have worked on figuring out geometric progression.
Yeah Taiwan is the top 3 worst or sometimes listed as the worst if you consider some of the others are city states.
Usually a toss up between Korea and Taiwan .
Taiwan is so rich though and so crowded that it is taking a while for the effects to be felt. Certainly you will feel them in the countryside with many (even more) run down towns.
Even in the suburbs of some big cities such as Kaohsiung you can see itâs bad thoughâŚsuch as Old Zuoying , just full of old people and run down looking buildings and businesses canât imagine what itâs like in 10 or 20 years!
Deaths in red, births in blue.
Itâs just a snapshot but it doesnât show the crisis affecting different parts of the country in different ways. For instance many schools will have to close in the countryside soon , others are still way oversubscribed in popular city districts.
The labour market doesnât reflect this crisis accurately because they continue to import more and more blue collar workers for manufacturing and caregiving and even agriculture now. Automation probably covers over some gaps too but certain sectors are struggling , restaurants and hotels for example canât get stable workers.
One of the major factors their birth rate is dropping is that this 850k strong cohort of people of breeding age are effectively prohibited from having children here. Itâs such a dumb self inflicted policy of aging and population destruction.
As it is no impending doom. Itâs just like a stock market corrrection.
Later on younger people will outnumber the aged as we will have all died off. Maybe we need Logans Run to be implemented.
There are no solutions that the voters will accept, so there is no problem
Everyone has the same problem, so there is no problem
Japan is some years ahead, so Taiwan can follow the same path. Japan hasnât imploded, so no problem
Itâs not a problem for most of the people here now. It might be a problem for their great grandkids. But if they donât have children, still no problem!
Looking to a future of Taiwan without actual Taiwaneseâjust millions of workers from SE Asia making stuff for export and paying taxes (withheld at source) supervised by robots I guess.
We do. It is not that new generations of children are not being born they are just in less numbers than those currently alive. It is not a species extinction event.
