Taiwan triad violence

A little quarrel, nothing serious!

"The three suspects said they had quarreled with Chen a few months ago and were seeking revenge, so they waited for their chance and kidnapped him, the officials said.

They said they were just roughing Chen up with wooden clubs and metal rods “to teach him a lesson,” but got carried away and beat him to death.

When police found his body, it was covered in blood and bruises, and his skull was cracked, officials said."

I’ll hazard a guess he learned his lesson.

Yes, he’ll never do it again.

1-2% ruin things for the rest here (perhaps that’s true everywhere). I can see sometimes why Singapore went the route they did. I read the article yesterday. I get the impression from that that the gangs still have their hands in many aspects of life/business here in Taiwan. Too bad.

Chen seemed like he was destined for greatness. I heard to was prophesized to bring balance to the gangs. Looks like he has gone to the great Bamboo Union in the sky.

What is the difference between a Triad and a PAP cadre in Singapore? One uses violence, the other harasses through the courts and by appointing cronies. Both are scum.

Don’t even know what a PAP cadre is. My point is that Singapore went almost anal with their laws, rules, and regulations, and it’s my understanding that they did this feeling that this is the only way a society of Asians/Chinese can be made to obey laws (is my history wrong in this regard?). Sometimes when I see how things are messed up, disorderly, etc. in Taiwan, I can understand why wanting to go the Singapore route would be desirable.

PAP is the Peoples Action Party – that party that controls Singapore. You are right – Singapore is Disneyland with the death penalty and their economic transformation from a malarial backwater to the Switzerland of Asia is amazing.

But it has come at a cost. Lots of bankrupted opposition leaders being harassed. People being put in jail for over 40 years without even being charged. A gormless population that is not very innovative. Chinese chauvinism being secretly pushed over the rights of Malays, Indians, etc. Make no mistake about it – they run the show. Taiwan is dirtier to be sure but it is AUTHENTIC. Singapore is equivalent to a plastic California model with massive fake tits. A showpiece but fake on a lot of levels.

I visit Singapore often doesn’t look fake to me, it looks unbelievably prosperous and is unbelievably prosperous . It’s also one of Asia’s most beautiful cities.
Also the people are very friendly and I mean the local working class people like taxi drivers etc. Some of the friendliest people I have encountered in all of Asia (helps that they speak English and Chinese of course ).
It’s also generally extremely safe and stable which counts for a LOT in South East Asia .

That it has no real democracy doesn’t mean it’s fake. I wouldn’t want their governmnent but Singapore’s model is actually crystal clear.

If you define unbelievably prosperous as 93 percent of people living in a cement box (albeit it a majority do lease that box ). Where the president makes over 1 million dollars (old socialist parties such as the PAP sure love to enrich themselves) but the taxi drivers, office workers, and many heartlanders barely scrape by. What happened to public service for serving rather than enriching? Singapore succession? Seems like Cuba to me. They love to keep it in the family for governing, for legal services when selling HDB flats, etc. There is loads of pus beneath the service.

I look at Malaysia transitioning toward a real democracy and realize Singapore won`t. Likely because the Chinese influence in demographics and the chauvinism against other races under the their facade of multicultural harmony. Nepotism is Singapore!

The public housing is 99 year leasehold, the occupants do not own them.

Also, they work as a pension. The idea is that the occupant will withdraw equity from them trough a reverse mortgage in old age.
