Fake news, food here sucks and taiwanese have a shyte pallette ![]()
Congrats to the winner! Quite a few foods here, if brought to the world stage, could easily win awards. It’s nice seeing more from here going outward.
also, a gelateria from Lukang won the best artisanal gelato award haha.
Will never complain about (Most) Italian food here. Just about prices and maybe choice. But happy camper.
Taiwan has great bakers and pastry chefs. The issue is most Taiwanese people just don’t see bread as a staple, and don’t have a habit of using bread as a sauce delivery carrier. So most bakeries just don’t make a lot of bread that serves that purpose. Instead, most of the bakeries are filled with cakes labeled as bread.
One in Taipei, one in Puli, and one in small town outside Tainan city.
That’s the real elephant in the room. Food in Taiwan is VERY expensive. People buy $30 fried rice and ignore the reasons why some is 30 vs 3000. Taiwna is filled with middlemen and inflationary greed. That’s a fact. But the food is still good, just not affordable to many ![]()
Check out a Tim hortens, mcdonalds, walmart and etc sometime. Bottom of the barrel is always…bottom of the barrel.
Taiwans bakerys are not usually chain stores so I dont really see the comparison.
On a serious note though I prefer local style to the french, europe? Inspired style bakery that won this award.
Taiwans cakes are nothing fancy but they are good.
The bread not so much but nothing wrong with some hotdog/sweetcorn/rou song/taiwan mayo abomination every now and then!
That must be blasphemy to the italians ! LOL. I actually quite like Panetonne. WE get it here n the winter, I like the one from Costco as well as the one from Trader Giotto both made in italy and the one made in Brazil we get at CVS actually is not bad either and a few dollars less.
HOw did Taiwan (of all places ) win in this category? Even the POPE must be upset, because its supposed to be such an ITALIAN tradition steeped in folklore and a perfection of several days careful preparation and making?
That said CONTRATS to the TAIWAN TEam. TAIWAN for the WIN!
BRAVO TAIWAN !
i do very much like taiwanese bakery products…course that may just have been stockholm Syndrome.
i just love the italian language! Although i keep thinking when is the Godfather gonna show up? ![]()
lukang? Of all places ! Lukang is on the same level of countrybumpkinness as Wanli me thinks.
Italy wasn’t represented in this particular competition, just Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, Germany, Japan, Peru, Spain, and Taiwan.
Still, a win’s a win.
That place is, unsurprisingly, above my normal price range for desserts, but I may need to give it a try anyway.
Italy was NOT represented in a pastry that is essentially Italian??? i am surprised? Or because if Italy was in, then ITALY has to be given the win so its exluded? in which case it makes sense.
#anycompetition
It’s all political. Okey dokey. Fair. What competition isn’t today?
But Taiwan (not necessarily Chinese in taiwan) has some fucking BANGERS, in the food world. The easy one everyone already knows about is smoked longan. Mountain Pepper as well. Pretty amazing, objectively. Not subjectively. Add to -whatevr- and it easily wins awards. Not only because its amazingness, but novelty plays a role too. what about shell ginger (banned by our own FDA, then allowed due to a few peoples extreme efforts to prove to the FDA toballow this traditional taiwanese food), taiwanese Sumac (fucking amazing!!!) and so on. Despite how developed taiwan is, it is under represented globally given our vast plant diversity and pretty acute pallette (in comparison to say notlrth american versions). If they kick French and Italian foods ass at their own game…Buckle up. Taiwanese food - not chinese- has some game changers the ignorant are going to love going forward ![]()
Looks like one of my links didn’t work. One of the chef owns this place in Nantou.
This is more for global outreach for Italy and its cuisine. I’m guessing Italy hosting the championship and winning all the time doesn’t contribute to their goal. So they judge instead.
Note: the Taiwan government spends lots*** of money on 3rd party consultants to go to foreign countries, like Italy, to promote their food. They go everywhere, by the way.
often times it’s geopolitical, in nature sadly, the story to the customer changes depending on if we have a Taiwanese government or a chinese one…even then, the shills that are laboring for the tax payer really run the game (not the elected officials). customers just want straight dope… Often times, it’s a massive failure due to [inner] logistics and consulting companies not knowing what the fuck they are actually doing. A crying shame, taiwan has so much to offer….yet middlemen with zero skill represent us. Truly, worthy of tears. The negative food issue are 100% due to business people being fucking retarded and greedy as shit.
In so many ways, tech is easier. It’s hard to manufacture, but easy to market. Less middle men manufacturing lies and bullshit. Thia chid soes this. Easy to understand and agree to pay.
Food is both hard to manufacture AND hard to market. And Taiwanese are famously autistic (in general), so the marketing campaign fails more often than not…precksely because too many retards are invced in aomething they cannot comprehend. It’s not like metal or plastic, which is objectivelyeasy to read numbers. Food requires explanations, something Taiwan still fails completely at. Hende the food prices here. High price tags, low quality.
If people wonder why the FDA is cracking down now, THIS is why. Hard truths, but reality.
