Lessee. You have mentioned JOlin but not mentioned ELVA, her immediate rival. There is the very well known group S.H.E. (two out of the three are cute while the other one has great legs but too tomboyish for many). There is Cindy Wang (very cute if a bit too thin).
I don’t know why, but I loathe Cindy Wang. Her music is way too cloying and I don’t find her attractive at all.
+1 for Cheer Chen. Mayday is alright if you count them as pop. If you like more of a classic R&B sound, Khalil Fong is not bad; he’s an American-born Hong Konger but his main fanbase seems to be in Taiwan. David Tao is another respectable one. Da Mouth are like the Black Eyed Peas of Taiwan; i.e., they’re annoying as hell but it’s hard to get their songs out of your head.
Gotta be honest, Mandarin-language pop music is extremely weak considering how large its potential audience is. Not a ton of variety. I’ve been told that payola is legal in Taiwan, and I’m sure it’s the rule on the Mainland as well.
there is some good stuff out there. Yang nai wen _ youtube.com/watch?v=SbHhdGT_e4c are two of my fav’s. Jiang hui is also fantastic if you’re looking for a great voice.
I’d like to recommend a blind male singer, Xiao huang-qi(蕭煌奇) He sings both Mandarin and Taiwanese songs
and writes most of them himself.
one of his most popular Taiwanese song “Grandmother’s words” youtube.com/watch?v=hHcH0NhiX_s
