Taiwanese drama kissing scenes

HAHAHAHHHAHA

So, I’m improving my daily Chinese skills by watching dramas, and I’m currently on episode 10 or 12 in Love Or Bread aka Wo De Yi Wan Mian Bao…and they finally kiss.

WHY ARE THEY SIMPLY TOUCHING LIPS AND BARELY OPENING THEIR LIPS ENOUGH TO BREATH, LET ALONE KISS?!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA maybe the US is just too … open about sexuality. Anyways, I find this weird in a drama, especially a teen drama but at the same time, the story is more about love and making it day to day more than all that other stuff (maybe I’m comparing to the disgusting drama on US televisions nowadays…), but I seem to understand it because Taiwanese culture isn’t so open about stuff like that.

What’s your view on Taiwanese love/kissing/sex/culture? And what is it really like in Taiwan?

That sounds like an X rated series compared to the Korean one (Winter Sonata) I had to watch for one of my university classes. Spoiler Alert: in Winter Sonata they go 20 episodes (the entire season) with only two kisses.

They are trying to frame the kiss as pure romantic love not physical love. They do that so that it’s localized for Taiwan and gets them past the midday TV censors. There is also the ideal of “romantic love”, unspoiled by physical feelings that they are trying to indoctrinate Taiwanese youth in.

I read in some posts about women and men having a dog breath in taiwan, so the actors and actresses may do a sex scene, but no kisses. Have you watch “Lust, Caution” directed by Ang Lee?
There are plenty of sex scenes, but no kisses.
Once I watched “Pretty Woman”, Julia Roberts character was explaining that as a prostitute, she has sex with the clients, not kisses.

I think it really comes down to culture differences, people in Taiwan are conservative on the outside and wild in the inside, so all that romantic love crap is just really a front. Thats what i think.

I’m starting to agree with you Ajuna. I’m watching all these dramas and there is barely any sexuality in them; but I find that ironic because I see young people in Taiwan to be like the dramas outside, all romantic and stuff, but wild inside…!!! But, it’s not bad though, at least the government is trying to control the youth…whereas in the US, sex sells, period.

I still find the “passionate” lip touching to be beyond hilarious. I’m watching It Started With A Kiss (if you follow taiwanese dramas, you’d see a pattern in my choice of dramas ha ha) but their sexuality degree in this drama has increased by half a degree!!!

Everything should be “clean” in all the dramas. We don’t want to risk a low audience rating with parents changing the channel whenever it gets too “sexy”.

That only goes to show why some of them are bad kissers because they have no where to learn it from… or so I’ve heard. :stuck_out_tongue:
