Photos are nice but I’d take @Explant toast over yucky eggplant any day of the week and I’m not even a Taiwanese woman
It’s a bagel, so you should call it “Jewish toast.”
It can be found in Taiwan, but unfortunately not very common.
Great pics. I must admit, I am one that truly HATES eggplants. Eat least the typical western/Japanese types. The texture really is a love/hate type thing it seems. But your pics do make them look quite nice!
Interesting tid bit. Taiwan is quite well known internationally for their Eggplant breeding and varieties. I see north American seed catalogs with “Pingtung XYZ” and the the like. This is the right country for those styles of eggplants, for sure!

Tonight’s dinner with friend in Taitung. Sam’s burger. We go there often when in Taitung. Their fries suck, but most other dishes are pretty good.
Yes of course, any idea of the etymology of that one? I have watched every single episode of home and away - yes I know - and I never once heard that word before.
I went for the beef noodle soup tonight. Hunted this one down on the plains of Xindian. In this variation they pour the soup over the top and it’s all on this “rechao” hot plate thing a majig which makes it resemble ‘toast’ or perhaps ‘salad’ at first glance, however I would classify it as ‘soup’ since you dip the bread in on top. It gets a bit inconvenient with the chopsticks and spoon all right but other than that its great.
No no no. That’s Mongolian beef spaghetti.

Actually on a momentarily serious note - is that allowed? - I just googled for “Mongolian beef spaghetti” and its bringing up some very decent looking dishes.

This will go into a pesto sauce (with chicken breast and a jar of pesto), and a tomato sauce (with a jar of tomato paste and some Costco pork). 465 NT for the veggies, 200NT for the pork, pictured. Plus noodles and the other stuff I already have, maybe 1000NT total and maybe 10 meals. The eggs are for other things.
I wouldn’t order spaghetti type pasta in a restaurant here, but my family and friends back in Canada probably can’t get this food for twice the price at this time of year.
So yeah, Taiwanese food is great

The only minus there is those crappy Taiwanese tomatoes. You’d think that with all Taiwan’s agricultural expertise they could grow better tomatoes.

Yeah, maybe. I’m comparing them to what’s available on the U.S. West Coast. By that standard they’r dismal…and also quite expensive.
