Taiwanese food sucks!

Maybe there is too much competition from the local fried chicken, so kfc changed the recipe to make the chicken more bland so its something different to get people to try it. Who knows, it sucks ass though. Their burgers and stuff are rubbish too. every single time i’ve been there i was disappointed.

Get the thin crust.

For delivery, when I have to choose between McDonalds, Pizza Hut and Domino’s, I always go for Domino’s.
If you want to use Food Panda or Uber Eats, there are WAY better options. My Chinese is just too shit to order from them. At least with Domino’s, I can say “One #5, a #7 and a #24”.

Yea my Chinese sucks and I’m allergic to nuts so going to random Taiwanese places can be a bit dodgy. Especially here in yilan

Oh crap. Are you sure Domino’s is safe? Avoiding peanut oil is going to be tough.

Yeah it’s scary! So I emailed dominos tw and asked, they said

親愛的顧客您好,

There is no any peanuts in pizzas,

We suggest you can order pizza in our official website:https://www.dominos.com.tw.

So should be fine :crossed_fingers:

That’s my thought too. Which is why I prefer Popeyes if going for “Western” style fried chicken. Nice Louisiana spiced chicken, not too bland.

That is the opposite of reassuring to me. I don’t know how serious your allergy is, but to me their response shows they don’t even understand that peanut oil can be lethal to some people.

i prefer pang lao die for western style taiwanese chicken. that places ji pai is lit!!

Their popcorn chicken is pretty awesome too!

I used to be a huge Monga ji pai person but the last time we went we were both very disappointed (almost rubbery chicken instead of that extremely juicy chicken that I’m used to).

I’ve recently really started to like mo wang ji pai ( 魔王狂爆雞排) – they also have that super juicy chicken breast

Damn now I’m concerned again lol

Vicariously enjoying my friend’s family’s food

I can’t speak to the western food now, but it was starting to get really good in Shanghai in the 00s. But as for Chinese food…it is leaps and bounds better than Taiwanese. I’m biased as I like savory and spicy food and don’t like sweet food and seafood, but there is very little local food that I enjoy in Taiwan. The noodles are awful, the hot pot is not very good, and everything seems sweet, bland, or blah. Even high end places can’t seem to get any type of spicy food right: Hunan, Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou, Yunnan, Xinjiang, and Beijing or Dongbei staples are almost completely absent or unrecognizable.

On the plus side, we don’t have a dictatorship squashing all of our rights and monitoring everything we do, so we got that going for us.

As for pizza, I’m not a huge fan of Napoli or Roma style, and I still haven’t found dependable NY style. It seems odd to me that it is much easier for me to get Chicago style pizza (which John Stewart correctly argues isn’t even real pizza…though I do still like it a lot) than NY style.

Thank you.

That’s because Taiwanese taste is a lot milder. Chinese taste is heavy and gross.

FIFY.

What’s the difference?

Functioning taste buds and sense of smell.

Yeah well I travelled a lot around China and there’s also a hell of a lot of bad food there. Disgustingly bad. The worst food I’ve ever eaten in hotels and airports for sure !
Then there was the time I got served what looked like a horses head but I was assured it was a cow.
Just that they have more regional cuisines being a massive country and all.

And Shanghai food is VASTLY overrated, super salty with tonnes of MSG and soya sauce.

This is true. China is definitely a country of culinary extremes. Unlike Taiwan, which is more about uniform blandness.

Cantonese local food is mostly gloop. Beijings dumplings can be much worse than those in Taiwan. In the end the local stuff is very patchy.
I can’t read their menus half the time anyway cos they keep calling the food different names than here.
