Taiwanese scholar saved the potato industry in Montana

This article is behind a pay wall, but basically Dr. Mike Sun (孫金財) was born and raised in Taiwan, and graduated from NTU with a phytopathology degree. When the seed potato industry in Montana was hit by ring rot in the 1970s, Dr. Sun was asked to help and he has been the director of the Montana State University Potato Laboratory ever since.

Since there is no cure for ring rot, the potato laboratory controls the source of seed potato seedlings and prevents any chance for contamination.
