Taiwanese snitch culture

A recurring bad experience here in Taiwan is the snitch culture, especially with regards to traffic violations.

My wife and I have both gotten multiple citizen reported violations - things like stopping (however briefly) on the red lines to drop off/pick up our kids, crossing white lines, being in the wrong lane, etc.

Snitching for victimless technical traffic violations was unheard of where we come from. Is this something that has gotten better or worse over the years, given the attention to TW’s bad drivers on the roads?

My Taiwanese friends said that before, when the police used to give snitches a % of the fine for successful reports, there were professional snitches who would camp out at problematic areas, reporting strangers who had done them no harm, as their job :face_vomiting: . They say we should assume everyone has a dashcam and will report even minor technical violations as part of their “civic duty”.

Perhaps don’t…break the law? It’s already hard enough to walk with everyone parked on the sidewalk.

Bro. Drive better. You know how everyone complains about the drivers in Taiwan being lousy? THOSE lousy drivers are complaining about your driving. Apparently repeatedly. Think about it.

It’s bothersome to report violations. Nobody would waste their time if it is “victimless”.
Red lines are there for a reason.

Have you learned from those?

Has you and your wifes habit of violtaed traffic laws increased or decreased over the years, given the attention you’ve both drawn from other road users?

Take a screenshot of this thread and post it in the Taiwan’s shit traffic thread. Jesus, how oblivious

Multiple instances?!.. either you have pissed someone off, or your driving is so out of control you should consider taking some scissors to your licence.

Are all these violations on a scooter?

If so, this one might become even more tricky

on the red lines to drop off/pick up our kids

Only 2 people are allowed on a scooter.

You know it’s bad when the Taiwanese are reporting you.

I have only ever been reported once and I drive almost every day, for years and years.

Would have to see some footage really to judge how small of a violation they are otherwise its hard to say.

I saw in your comments that you were failing the driving license test not so long ago. Maybe you shouldn’t drive at all if you are asking these questions.

Perhaps he’s going for honourary citizenship. They won’t even make him renounce.

Is ur wife taiwanese?

Just use uber

After all those complaints in the traffic thread. Was everyone just running into this guy

Okay, not the thread that I was expecting… how about in the workplace? Anyone have any experiences being snitched on by Taiwanese co-workers?

I drive less than you, but only stopped once. Seems less people park at red lines, and your more likely have your car sent to the garda yard in Kao city. I always wondered they get extras for more cars in the yard
