Well we hear a lot about how terrible are foreign English teachers in Taiwan , but obviously not even close to this bunch of Taiwanese elementary school teachers, cram school teachers and police officers. How this case didn’t get more widely reported on. Can you imagine if this were foreign teachers. One defendent only got a suspended sentence (less than a foreigner would get for smoking a joint or giving the middle finger). Wow these awful Taiwanese teachers(sarcasm). Obviously a tiny percentage in reality but if the shoe were on the other foot. There was another case even worse than this where they would not even identify the Taiwanese kindergarten teacher.

Not as bad as the kindergarten case but certainly the people involved were much higher status in society. Police officers , celebrities etc. I bring this up because cases of foreign teachers involved in this kind of thing seems pretty much close to zero. I think there may have been a very rare case of it. However, in Taiwanese education it’s not as rare as some may believe. The government a couple of years back were going to make some reforms to help reduce it ; especially after the suicide of a famous Taiwanese writer who got raped at a Cram school.
I would suggest that foreign teachers welcome CCTV in their classrooms. There also should be a law requiring crams schools to have back ups of their CCTV footage for x amount of time.
No CCTV in the classroom , don’t teach.
